2018 Men's NCAA Tournament

Wake's indoor facility has 8 courts. Not sure if they'd try to play it all there if a day is completely washed out or look to add a second facility (Duke is closest - about an hour fifteen minute drive away).

From what I've heard, I believe UNC's courts will be the alternate for indoor play; not sure if there are more sites beyond that. Heard the weather will be pretty nasty!

I'll be coming in with the TCU team - I'd like to meet any of you college tennis fans (as long as you don't bite) during my trip there!

Watching 2 quarters going on at the same time is the highlight of the tournament for me. I assume if they go indoors that changes everything

Yeah, I think WF has 8 indoor courts right on site. So, they can't play two full QFs at once indoors. I'd assume all NCAA hosts need to have access to indoor courts, but 12 might be asking a bit much. I remember one there were major rain issues in Athens, they played some indoors in Atlanta, which is over an hour away.

How is Mr. Tut Bartzen doing ? One of the greatest Davis cup players this country has ever seen. I got some nice coaching from him in the past, man knows what he is talking about.

He's still moving, albeit a lot more slowly than he used to haha. I still see him come every Wednesday - he runs an indoor drill every week, but he doesn't do much playing anymore I imagine, just coach when he can. I recently made a stop by his house to string a racquet he incorrectly mounted - shocked that he still strings!

I plan to get up to WS on Sunday although if they do use the UNC or dook courts I will probably stay here. We can try to say hello somewhere if you are still around Sunday, I give you a 50/50 shot against Illinois.

Yes. Last year was one of those years. UGA only has 4 indoor courts so they moved some of the matches to Georgia Tech. I was in Athens for the round of 16, quarterfinals and one semi. It rained quite a bit last year around the start of the quarterfinals. The rain was so intermittent that it pushed the UGA/UCLA quarter late into the night. I didn't get home until 2 am after that match. The next day was not much better and they had to send some of the matches to Atlanta.

They may have to use the UNC/Duke indoor courts on Thursday Friday as the forecast is rain all day and they need to get in 8 matches each day.

You're correct about UNC as the back-up option. If play goes indoors then six of the eight indoor courts at Wake will be used for one match and the other match will be sent to UNC. I thought they might try to play two matches at Wake with each using four courts but they decided against it. There will be live streaming at both indoor sites.

Is it randomly selected? Seems UNC would get quite an advantage if they stay home. I imagine the communication will stink though and I'll drive to WS only to find out there are matches near my home in Chapel Hill

Ole Miss are absolute fighters. They can for sure win the whole tournament, especially if Hansson starts to dominate again. They are unbeatable in doubles, and with everyone playing well can win every position against Florida for sure!! Ole miss for the title.

The higher seed stays in town while the lower seed goes to the back-up site however if UNC is involved they would stay in Winston-Salem regardless of seed as to not give them a home-court advantage.

Hansson is done, Commentators in the 2nd round said he is ONLY there to fill up the #1 spot so that everyone can move down a spot. He can't move and he isn't even 60 % of normal. He is supposed to lose every #1 singles match for the rest of the tournament, and that is the expectation of the coaching staff.

After 4 days of rest and rehab, I would say he could be a force in doubles. Probably not enough time to get good enough to win in singles.

If there is one thing this forum knows is that you talk straight trash. He will be 100% because he's been out for months so he could fully recover. It's just that it's his first matches back! So probably just rusty. He can for sure beat everyone on one once he starts playing well. You literally don't know anything.

Not a trash talk. It is straight FACT. It was during his 2nd match back against Tom Fawcett that Commentators said, he is just filling in the spot at #1 singles so every other players can play down. and he still couldn't move not even close to normal self.

SINGLES
1) No. 9 Tom Fawcett (STAN) d. No. 45 Gustav Hansson (Ole Miss) 6-4, 6-2

So the commentators know exactly what's happening with him? If its someone's first match back after not playing for months then of course he's not going to be moving or playing as well. You literally don't know a thing about tennis.

Sorry meant to say first matches back! Oliver Crawford if not even close to the level of Fawcett or Alvarez. You are pathetic to be brutally honest. Get over the Stanford loss.

Let's admit it. Ole miss doesn't deserve to be in sweet 16. Stanford does. Ole miss should go to NCAA and tell them they are defaulting and Stanford should rightfully take their place.

Yeah except Ole Miss beat stanford with according to you and the commentators there no 1 player only being 60%. If he was 100% they would win even easier. And then ole miss 100% deserves it because they were mentally tougher at the end of the day. i think Stanford does deserve to be in the tournament because they are a top 5 team. It's just Ole miss is better and they proved that.

Old miss should DQ themselves and tell NCAA, let Stanford in because they won unfairly

That sucks Jaggy, sorry. It would be ridiculous for UNC to play at home, but they should have gotten their act together and not told everyone otherwise.

Really weird to see Kodali in dubs lineup. USC takes the opening point. Not sure I can handle both UNC teams being upset back-to-back.

I don't think this would be really an upset. these 2 teams are very evenly matched up. USC is better coached however. Peter Smith is equivalent to LeLe Forood men's tennis

This guy Blumber is a great player. he is handling Holt with ease. anyhow, I think UNC may pull this one off afterall. just have more talent in singles lineup with exception of #2 singles.

Sigouin at no. 2 singles is a really talented freshman with some big wins this year. The fact that he's just lost 7 straight games after going up 5-2 is baffling.

Soendergaard represents the fourth first set UNC could win here, and he just blew three break point chances at 5-all. As anyone who has followed UNC this year knows, it's really, really bad news when you have to count on Soendergaard at no. 3. Does not handle adversity or pressure well, and that's putting it mildly.

One of the many reasons it would suck if UNC lost today is that it would deprive us of Blumberg v. Redlicki in the next round.

Simon huge hold at the deuce point to force a breaker. This feels like one of those moments that's do-or-die for UNC. Can't afford to lose three first sets. Particularly painful because the other two they lost, UNC held 5-2 leads and blew it.

SouthernCourts

Soendergaard making me eat my words! That gives UNC four sets, so there's at least a chance. Advantage still to USC though.

Also, Blumberg is such a stud. 6-3 6-0 against the no. 11 player in the country.

I can't see much that would stop Blumberg from winning the singles and getting the wild card to Flushy.

Here comes Sigouin! Breaks back and holds, up 5-4 in second. Kelly about to go down and Kiger about to win, so we're looking at 2-2. UCLA big edge at no. 5, slight edge at no. 2, slight deficit at no. 3. Gonna be dramatic.
