We all know that people have won 5 grand slams in a row in the open era. Bjorn Borg at Wimbledon and Roger Federer twice, at Wimbledon and the US Open. I'm not sure if anyone else has done 5 in a row in the open era but I don't think they have.
So, will Roger Federer become the first man in the OPEN ERA to win 6 slams in a row at the US Open this year???

Thoughts.

Now that Nadal can beat Roger on clay, grass and hardcourt doesn't look like Roger will win any more unless the move a Grand Slam indoor on carpet.

I'm pretty sure Fed will win 6 USO in a row. Like Navratilova won 6 Wimbledon in a row.

Yes, the old fox will make it 6 at the U.S Open this year. A phenomenal achievement it will be!

..First Fed is focusing on another big record...4 runner up trophy's in a row at the French Open.

Anyone know the record for the most runner ups in a row at the same slam?

I really hope Fed will do it but I fear it will only happen if someone else takes out Rafa before the final. I really like both of these guys and don't want to root against either one, but Fed needs a boost of confidence or this rivalry will soon be a thing of the past. I don't think he has the belief anymore.

6 in a row in the Open era. Martina at Wimbledon. No other woman has won 6 in a row anywhere.

Now there is a Nadal fan with rationality instead of all the ****s flooding this board.

On the other hand I think there is a higher probability for Nadal to win 6 consective Roland Garros although Federer is only one win away from 6 USOs.

Agassi:

It would be very interesting if Nadal won FO and W this year and met Fed in the finals of the USO. Nadal competing for the calendar slam and Fed competing for 14 slams and 6 consecutive USOs.

I really can't see anyone apart from Fed winning it. I can't picture anyone else with that trophy.

I think it's very possible Fed can take the US Open 6 in a row. Something doesn't feel right about this year though, I don't know...

If Fed cannot do it, then Nadal will be the man that's next able, because he's got a lock so far on clay unless Fed takes it

I'm pretty sure Fed will win 6 USO in a row. Like Navratilova won 6 Wimbledon in a row.

I agree with this, that stats will say that Roger has the highest percentage chance to win.

Nadal would need to make some serious improvements by this time, ie serve and return

The key word in there is can, there is nothing to say that on a different day Federer would beat Nadal on hard courts in straight sets, nor grass or even clay if he didnt choke.

That would be EPIC!! Just the amount riding on that one win.....I bet they would both be nervous as hell and the viewing figures would go through the damn roof!!!

I'd pick Fed to win....in that situation

Fed v. Nadal US Open final if you knew nothing about their match history and just looked at their games Fed is clearly favored for the surface but I guarantee Fed loses in 5 sets if he faces Nadal as of the CURSE OF NADAL. In order to win US Open against Nadal he has to win Wimby against Nadal..If Fed wins Wimby this year and the US Open I think that makes him the only man to have 6 titles at 2 separate slams. Borg is 6 and 5 Samp is 7 and 5 and nobody else has 12 slams except Emerson? and He only has 6 AOs. So I imagine Fed gets it he has another record to add to his collection. Also I think he is the only man to then make 7 Wimbledon finals in a row in the open era (Also a hefty accomplishment.) Fed can do a lot of great things this year he has to get over Nadal, he is clearly still capable of winning slams and being the best..he has to stop losing to the same guy over and over. I have confidence in a semi final or earlier exit for Nadal though at USO and Federer gets his 6th straight as neither Murray or Djokovic can beat him there, just not ready yet to face him on that stage.

oh god, I wouldn't pic fed then. The amount of pressure he would be feeling because that also means he did not win a slam yet, and that would be his last chance to prove something as well as equal sampras's records. I know its probably a slim chance, but I'm still hoping fed would be able to get back wimbledon. It would be nice for him to equal pete's records of all places just because its special to him and also the place was special to pete.

I dunno if Fed can win the USO this year or not. If he goes into damage control and has a subpar 2009 season as he did a 2008 season to his standards, USO may be his only chance to salvage his season. I think fed winning or losing at the USO may depend on what he does at the RG and Wimbeldon. Murray will be a tough son of a gun to take out at the USO now that the first slam gitters are out of the way. Nadal may be a problem and we dont know what Fed's ranking will be by USO time. He may have to deal with nadal BEFORE the USO finals which doesnt help. Djoker will be in the mix Im sure

I dunno, this is a tough call. Nadal MAY have a chance to meet him in the finals, but right now I don't think thats the least of his worries. There are still a bucnh of other really good players that he has to account for. I mean look at Murry, hes got Fed's number. There is still Djoker, I know he hasnt been that sucessful in 2009, but he might start blooming beofre the USO. Its still really far from now so its difficult to really say anything. For all we know the top 10 players could all dramatically improve.

It would be best if he could tie Sampras's record at FO, break it at Wimbledon. Here's to wishin'.

Nadal was only one match away from the finals last year. And to that he's a bad match-up for Federer and it's more like 50/50 (see AO 2009).

LOL....I dunno man....it would be too close to call....I think it would be a terribly nervous affair....I think if Nadal stays healthy he is the favourite for Wimbledon he has just been improving his game too much imo....then after that I could see him missing some events to stay fresh for USO....

But I think it does favour Fed and I think in that situation he would find a away to beat Nadal....

I like when history can be made whoever wins...

hmmm, I used like that too. Whenever those two met, more than often something was on the line. After the recent AO, not anymore.

Or Rafa is injured... or someone else takes Rafa out prior to the final (like in the 2008 USO)

To be honest I would like Roger to put up more of a fight but I still really look forward to their encounters.....

I think he will be kicking himself if he doesn't make it 6 in a row.

I can't see Nadal beating him on the surface, Djokovic like wise. He'll be wary of Murray but if they do meet in the final again you have to think the Federer that always turns up in major finals will be plenty enough to get the job done.

Yeah I guess I missed that.

Anyway, you know what is worse then 4 FO runners up? Never making a USO final.

natural you just contradicted yourself so many times its ridiculous.
