A Quick Natural Gut Question

I just was walking home when my racket accidentally got bushwacked by a bush I did not see on the sidewalk. Unfortunately this bush was filled with water, since it was raining here in NY today. The racket was strung w/ Red Code/Gut and I am really nervous about the gut and the water. What will happen? (as I hear gut + water doesn't equal a good combo.)

However, I just read this article http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/LC/Naturalgut.html
and noticed that it says now adays companies add a layer to gut to prevent weather/water damage?

just make sure to wipe it down with a dry cloth. You'll be fine.

Good luck, and enjoy the strings.

^^^ Thanks you guys , I was bouncing a ball around and it still feels okay, I immediately took a cloth and tried to dry it as fast as I could. What really bummed me out initially was that they were brand new strings, I just picked up the racquets today.

The water won't hurt it at all. I kept hearing all the rumors about gut being so bad in the rain 15 or more years ago. I took a can of soda and poured on my gut just to see what would happen. Nothing did. It played the same. Kind of sticky--got more spin for a while--picked up more ball fuzz. Strings were fine.

I hate gettin' bushwhacked by anything... especially a bush :p

It will be fine. How much did the string/stringing cost you?

What type of gut?

You should be fine. I hit with gut yesterday and it drizzled for a short time during the hit and the strings got moist. I took the racquets out again and everything was fine...except my opponent :)

I had my own gut, but the red code was theirs. not exactly sure how much the string job cost though. my mom went to go pay for it.

and thanks to all who eased my nervousness on this situation.

Steve is exactly correct on this! I have hit in a light rain a good # of times, afterwords I just wipe down the racquet and strings with a dry towel, and I sprinkle some baby powder in the racquet cover to absorb the moisture, and all is well, and no problems. Too many people talk of gut and water problems, and I do not see that at all.

Do you sling it over your shoulder and burp it, too? :-D

I once played in a synthetic grass court after rain. The court was just damp and not too wet. My racquet was strung with babolat vs gut and after about 1 hour of hitting, the vs gut was ruined, the gut just got all crinkly and frayed... So now I hit with my synthetic gut when the court is damp.

I hit with gut a good # of times in a light rain, the ball gets wet, and it never ruined the VS gut. I have no idea how your was ruined.
