Alexander Zverev to expose Tsitsipas false down.

I've seen a lot of commotion about Stefanos Tsitsipas on these forums, recently.

I think that everyone should be aware that one-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist - and all-around tennis icon - Alexander ''Sascha'' Zverev will silence the hype surrounding this young Greek player later today.

Stefanos is no Plato or Aristotle with the racquet, and he will succumb in straight-sets to the German maestro.

Zverev looked like a future grand slam champion to me today. Tsitsipas had me wondering why there's so much hype surrounding him.

Well, at 19 years old he is in the top 30, having beaten Goffin twice, Thiem, Anderson. He also went to the final in Barcelona without dropping a set against 4 clay court specialists. His game is not fully mature yet nor is his body but he has a lot of skill. Not everybody is Nadal to be winning slams at 19 (from a Fed fan).

Also, he is the youngest player in the top 100 so I guess that also kinda explains the hype.

What's his weapon? What's his strength?

I think his shots are pretty heavy, both forehand and backhand. Mostly loopy but he is able to flatten them successfully when he needs to. Moves very well around the court (for a guy his size) and his shot selection is pretty solid as well.

He got a good Forehand and serve but they are not killer weapons. His movement is better than guys of his height.

But his backhand is like Backhand of teenage/20 yo Federer but without a good slice ( forget the killer slice, he needs to develop a normal one first ), in short not Great. Frankly I don't understand the hype for him.

Zverev hype I get: he has easy power, incredibly clean groundstrokes and changes the direction of the ball extremely well; he's a good mover, especially for his height. He has the potential to be a better version of Berdych. Could have the success Del Potro didn't because of the wrist.

But Tsitsipas neither has great power nor the defensive skills of a Big4 guy so I don't know how he's going to make a living at the top of the sport. Head seems to be screwed on right though. He was getting destroyed out there but stayed present and won four games in the second set.

Zverev is now ripened for some big results. I think he will start getting some big wins from now on. You can see he has really grown into a man now. Tsitsipas is still a young kid who needs more time to develop. In 3 years, he may be able to compete with Zverev.

I Agree! I was much more impressed by the young Aussie than the blond Greek in the exciting night match. As much as I would love to see the baby faced Aussie win today, he will not.

Some big results where exactly?Zverev is doing impressively in BO3 format but when it comes to BO5 format his level there is not good.He need 3 five setters against average players at RG this year while he easily handled Thiem in straight sets at Madrid final. So clearly he cant bring his BO3 level to BO5 format for now at least.

Zverev hype I get: He has the potential to be a better version of Berdych. .
WTF? Zverev is already better than any version of Berdych. The only thing Berdych has done in his career is defeating Federer and Djokovic at Wimbledon 2010. Nothing else. There is no doubt Zverev will surpass Berdych's career "merits".

Zverev is #3 in the World at age 21, and will become #2 on Sunday. Berdych's highest ranking is only #4.

Zverev has 3 weapons: the serve, an amazing backhand and solid movement to be that tall. His forehand is also not bad.

Berdych only has 1 weapon: his serve. But Berdych is slow and mentally weak. Berdych always chokes in the crucial moments.

Berdych has made 7,026 aces in 959 matches for a total of 7,3 aces per match.
Zverev has made 1,600 aces in 234 matches for a total of 6,8 aces per match.

So they are close in serve's accuracy.

I think he reminds people of Guga.

And, people are so desperate for someone to replace Rafa on clay (that isn't Zverev) that it's easy to like Tsit.

Between the ears is ultimately what makes a player great and I am not talking about Stafanos’ nose.;). How he recovers his composure when it’s not going his way.Yes he had a melt down started beating his head, but at least it wasn’t with his racquet ala Youzhny. Shows he has great desire. And as you said he managed to recover in the second set. At the moment Sascha is that much more ahead of him in terms of experience.

Peeps were saying Murray lacked weapons and also Novak only had a great backhand at 19. Stefanos has time on his hands to fully develop his game.

Berdych obviously realised his potential in slams more than Zverev has, hence my statement. As for peak ranking, that's a function of Zverev coming of age in a weaker era than Berdych did; in Berdych's best seasons, he had better overall results than Zverev did last year. As for weapons, Berdych struck the ball extremely well and powerfully off both sides, like Zverev does. Zverev may be more explosive off the ground though and has more talent for ball movement.

It's a moot debate because it is inevitable to me that Zverev will far outpace Berdych. He's scrappier and moves better and I did say he looks like a future grand slam champion. I just need to see him get more consistently strong results, particularly in slams, to be absolutely convinced that's he's already better than Berdych ever was though he probably is.

He still won series of BO5 matches and I count that for a lot. He was maturing mentally, that was all experience building moments. I think he is more complete now, physically, mentally, skill-wise and experience-wise. That may not translate into good results straight away, but from early next year, I expect him to stand toe-to-toe against and beat the big 4.

Alexander Zverev to expose Tsitsipas false down.

What?
False down?
Face down?
False dawn?
Synthetic down, (as in fiberfill)?

I don't remember posting this thread, but - for reference - this was apaarently about a quarter-final match at the 2018 Canadian Open.

Alexander ''Zed'' Zverev has since written himself into the history books, whilst Stefanos ''Stef'' Tsitsipas has gone the way of Prometheus.
