Alexz ( ntrp lta ??)

Gyswandir

Semi-Pro
He is a good player, who obviously at least has some proper coaching in his background. However, given how relaxed Golaz has seemed in all his matches, I think he has a higher gear that would allow him to win. Would be interesting to watch

I'd love to see some video of "MamyLaly". According to that London website, he beat golaz in 3 straight sets that included a bagel and breadstick....

Can this bloke beat golaz ?? He doesn't have a rating . any idea what level he is ?

It's quite interesting that website. Not so much for the level of play but the formula for calculating ranking. The guy who seems to run it says,

"Roughly speaking if someone is:
- 100pts ahead of you you have a 1 in 3 chance of beating them,
- 200pts about 1 in 4,
- 400pts about 1 in 10,
and then it drops away to zero pretty fast."

On that basis, it's almost better to forget about NTRP, LTA or ITN and use the site rankings as guide to who might be an appropriate person to play. Looking at the two players you video'd, AlexZ has 1,995 points and Gantonicci has 1,775 points. On the basis of a slightly more than 200 point difference between them, AlexZ would be a strong favorite to win (~75% chance of winning). The final result was 6-1, 6-2, so it seems pretty accurate (let's say Gantonicci is predicated to take 25% of the sets played which is roughly 3.75 games).

It sort of takes the fun out of playing someone unknown (NTRP levels here has a pretty wide spread) but at least it seems pretty accurate. If I was on that site, I wouldn't bother playing anyone more than 200 points above me.
