Am I alone in doing this?

I'm curious if there are others that do what I do during matches - keep detailed score in your phone.

I use an app called Tennis score tracker (and a different one, called tennis math for my android. But I rarely use it anymore) and at each end turn I just input the point by point score of the last two games, and in what order each point is won. If a game goes to deuce with a lot of break points back and forth I just have to remember how many for each player.

From this I get quite useful statistics. For example, I started playing in a league this fall and started keeping score in this app. I could clearly see that I didn't save many break points at all. So I started focusing extra much when facing break points and now the stats are a lot better (and I win more matches) than before. I could also see that I almost all the time win more deuce points than my opponents, so that makes me relax whenever a game gets to deuce.

Is anyone else doing this? I know it might seem nerdy or something but it also helps me keep my mind cool during matches just remembering the points played. ?

This is what the stats look like. First pic is from a match and second pic is my total stats.

The first statistic that calls my inmediate attention is how much this application reduced your battery...

Would like to but don't want to put in the effort.

I just try to remember to play important points with more focus. This ends up being most of them LOL

I never seen anyone do that. What's your level? If I were playing against you, I would find it annoying. Unless you have limitless time on the court (not paying for court time or being pushed off the court due to time constrictions).

I think it would be OK, if you want to do that after the match but not so cool during the match. It would be like getting on your knees and pray during the match.

@alien haha! Yeah, that would not make a very good app. I think I pulled the images on different days.

@blip it's doesn't take much effort. No more than like 10secs to input two games. :)

But I see your point, and the idea of this "experiment" is to learn how to play my best at the right moments in matches, sets and games. So far it's has helped but the total stats have "levelled out" so there really isn't that much difference from match to match. So I think I'll quit this eventually. Or just do it for tournaments.

@Merlin703 in Sweden we don't have a system like the ntrp but my guess is somewhere around 4.5.

Why would it be annoying since it only takes about 10secs? I do it while holding my water bottle in my other hand when we're sitting down in between games. And people are not that social during our league matches. So there's not much talking anyway.

Everyone I have showed it too (after the matches) have been excited to see their own stats.

@Blip :)
For you completely effortless.

We play our league in divisions with eight players in each division. The two at the top gets moved up and the bottom two down. So I play practically the same guys over and over with some exceptions. So in the end, I have a lot of stats on some of them. I just realised I can analyse their stats prior to playing them. ?

Perhaps distracting. I either talk to you and you tell me what you are doing or don't talk to you and assume you are texting. I still think it would be a bit distracting to me but hey... if you like it, I suppose it's OK. I never seen anyone use it during a match. Post match, possible but no that I'm aware of.
Now, if you are a regular partner and he knows exactly what you are doing, it shouldn't affect him at all.

@Merlin703 I almost always say what I'm doing. It seems fair. But I think it maybe could be considered as a digital version of the score keeping devices that usually exist on the courts. Only a bit more detailed. :)

I would never do it but if it works for you and it doesn't take too much time... why not.

I do think that video taken for 1 match will probably be more useful than stats taken for dozens of matches. For stats... great. For game improvement... not so much.

Where do you hold your phone? Doesn't your opponent complain about time wasting?

I have it on the bench or on my bag. And it really takes no time at all to input, most of the time my opponents don't even seem to notice it.
Say a game score is 40-15 and then won. That's five presses on the screen. There's one button for me and one for my opponent. So it's really just a question of how fast my thumb can go (and me remembering). It takes seconds. And as for remembering I've always had a great memory, I think this keeps it in shape maybe.

That would definitely take me "out of the game." I always play each point one at a time...having to stop and remember the past points, even games would hurt my focus for the next game. If anything, why not have a friend keep stats for you?

An alternative for the others would be to videotape the game and then chart it at your leisure. I bet these stats, with a big enough sample size, would really help the winning%. By the way, I thought the OP was spamming at first, sorry :)

Don't you remember the score from a game you just played? That's all that's needed really, and preferably the order of the points. But I get what you mean. To me, especially by now, it's just automatic. And as I stated earlier, it helps me keep my head cool actually. :)

Having a friend do it for me is a stretch. I've never had a friend just hang out and spectate my league matches. Think it would be a test of a friendship asking someone to come take my stats at 10 in the evening on a weekday. ;)

Haha! To someone this can surely be perceived as spam.
It's funny. When I first registered for TT I was automatically discarded as a spambot. Several times. Had to have a conversation with the TW staff to get my account open.

Yeah @Bud. The screen shot I chose was from a match I dominated, felt more fun than showing a pic from a loss. ;)

So I'm feeling pretty alone in this given the discussion that followed. Maybe there are other that do this, or maybe I'm a pioneer? Time will tell. Soon everybody will be lost in their phones during matches. And you have me to blame... :)
