Andy Muurya not victorious in Wimbledon :(

I'm pretty sure that number is too low, other people in the match thread seemed to think so too.
Wimbledon seems to have low UE counts for whatever reason. Juan Carlos Ferrero had a match with zero UE's one time if I remember right.
Edit: JCF's 0 UE was at the 2010 USO, oops. It must be incorrect.

That's the official stat. Having been there - I don't recall him making more than a couple of UE in the last 3 sets. The guy is just superb.

I'm optimistic rather than sad. Andy's had his best run in Slams by making at least the SF in the last three Slams. The first set against Nadal was probably his best set of tennis on grass. All in all he's still improving, as his Slam performances this year show.
My only worry is he said "I was playing very high-risk tennis for most of the match. Maybe I got the balance wrong". If he thinks he can beat Nadal on clay or grass, without playing high-risk tennis, he is delusional. Miles Maclagan hits the nail on the head with the following comments:
"I think he needs to try and be more attacking more of the time because then it becomes a habit.
"If it is not your usual style you can't - whether it is Andy or anyone else - suddenly turn things on in the final or semi-finals of a Grand Slam.
"The way you play is almost a way of life, rather than tactics. Look at Rafa, people talk about his tactics but I'm not so sure he has any. He has just got his way of playing and thinks 'well, I'm the best in the world and if I play my way, I am going to win most of the time' - which he does.
"That's where it is difficult for Andy because he does have options - he can rally and he can serve-volley - but it takes time to put either properly into place.
"But in my opinion the first set was great and I think he needs to ingrain that kind of aggressive approach into his regular style." (If Andy takes one thing away from this Wimbledon, it should be this IMO, but his above comment is worrying as it suggests he may take the exact opposite thing away with him.)

I agree with Miles, and that's what I said many times, Murray can't play aggressive tennis for 3 sets consistently let alone for 5, He can play one good set where anything He hits goes in, close to the lines, perfectly placed, but it only goes down.
Everything Miles should make everybody appreciate even more How FED plays and wins, high risk very aggressive beautiful tennis.
The positives for Murray, is He was finally able to play a great set of aggressive tennis, going for it, now He needs to work on the consistency of aggressive tennis for 2 sets, then 3 sets... maybe He will have a chance.

I'm kind of sad for him, because I'm sure he's disappointed. But like Oceansize, I'm personally really optimistic. He's trying new things, and was quite successful in the first set. Like Maclagan said in the quotes above, he just has to get accustomed to doing it more often.
I'm not sure whether Andy's quote means that he's going to back off aggression entirely... he mentions a balance. I imagine he's thinking back to matches where he didn't play as aggressively and kept the score much tighter on points, whereas he had one winning set here, two blowouts, and one that was kind of okay. I can see where he might think it's an issue of finding the right mix. But given his success in that first set, I can't imagine he's planning on dropping that style entirely.
Bottom line, boy needs a full-time coach.

I think Andy should use the US Open hardcourt stretch to modify his game - play more aggressive much like he did in the first set and as others have said, don't dwell on a bad point and move on.
The top 3 all do it - that's why they have are dominating the slams. It's what separates them from Murray/Soderling/Berdych/Ferrer.

This may be true, but like Maclagan says, the answer is to get more used to playing high-risk tennis, rather than playing safer, as Nadal won almost all the points where Murray didn't take the initiative and allowed Nadal to hit the first agressive shot.

Oh yeah, I agree, and I certainly hope he gets that pounded into his head from someone he'll listen to. Fact is, he lost either way. Sure, he got more flack for this loss because it looked worse than the other, tighter losses, but a loss is a loss. This time, at least he won a set, and could probably do better if this style becomes something he's comfortable with.

Yup, should be okay. The pressure on Rafa may be too much though.
Federer made 11 unforced errors in 5 sets against Tsonga and he still lost the match.

I hate Andy Murray - and I'm not even trolling.
Only thing I like about his game is his drop shots - once in a while......
Everything else sucks - his attitude, his hairstyle, his dorky appearance, his whole game (besides the occasional well executed drop shot), his clothing (both Fred Perry and Adiddas looks awful on him) and finally his MOM :lol:
