Another TGK question (238.1 & 238.4)

Hello, i have 2 questions about Head TGK frames.

#1: Since those frames have no technology gimmick in their layup, is it right to assume that the difference between TGK238.1 (MG Prestige MP) and TGK238.4 (YT Prestige MP) is cosmetic only?

#2: If the answer to the first question is yes, which one between the retail Microgel and Youtek Prestige frames would you say is closer to the TGK frames in terms of playability and feel?

Thanks.

Neither are close.

Even though they're supposed to be the same thing, some people swear (aka dr325i) that the 238.4 play better. So I would go with the ones with the actual experience

The second question is kinda impossible to answer. The prostocks that us mortals manage to get are almost always already customized. So one could be closer to the MG and another closer to the YT...

hmmm, then I am confused. so according to dr.325i the TGK's also have different materials, layup, etc.? That kinda makes no sense.

We cannot say anything definitive without forensic analysis :)
Until then, I will say this:

Perfectly matched retail MGPMP and TGK 238.1 played the same to me (or the difference is measurable in lab environment:))

PS it is well known fact that the latest painjobs play the best because thay come with embedded mojo ;)

Thanks for the inputs. When i ask which retail versions is closer, i was referring to the feel of the frames. I've read that MG Prestige has more of a dampened/muted feel while the YT is said to be stiff/crisp. Would you say the TGK versions are more muted or crisp?

ManuGinobili raises a good point about how the TGKs are customized. I was under the impression that customization wouldn't really change the feel and flex of a frame but it seems like it can in fact be the case.

I tested with a retail Youtek Prestige Pro and ended up buying 4 new TGK 238.5 Youtek Prestige Pro painjobbed racquets and to me there us a difference, though it's not big, but I serve better with the TGK 238.5 and also THINK I have a better polar weighting in the TGK, but as said this can all be in my head, no proof of that :)
One should think that a TGK with outside lead in the entire cap grommet and silicone in the handle and a Head Calf skin leather grip would play differently than a retail YPP with no lead, no silicone and a basic Head leather tour grip - they even have different buttcapps

Also because some people can make a bigger profit selling them...hence the huge hype about "pro stock this" and "pro stock that".
Your observation that when perfectly matched in specs (the way they are matched matters as well...i.e. silicone vs lead) they play pretty much the same is blasphemy.
You should be ashamed of yourself.

I am profoundly sorry but that is simply my impression. The sound was definitely different due to different composition but performance wise they were the same to me. Even the feel was pretty much the same (my friend and I did a few blind-tests)...

Not to worry ... I really do believe you :). I think you misunderstood me.
My point is pretty much that the people who keep hyping up these "tgk's" and "pt57s" to unbelievable levels on these boards have made a pretty penny by selling said "coded frames" to gullible people who read/post on this forum and are trying to buy a tennis game.

Yeah, these gullible guys you describe sound just like me. I am aware that the frame i use won't really send my game to new levels but knowing there are pros out there using the same frame at least brings my mind to peace in terms of equipment which is a big plus. Tennis is mostly mental after all :)
