Ok, we've all been speculating why Roger Federer is below his usual best this year. Some say it's age, some say it was Glandular Fever, others say that his opponents are just better and stronger now. Whatever.
Looking at Roger this year and looking at Roger previous years he doesn't seem to have the time he used to have. His anticipation doesn't seem to be as great as it was.
And face it, anticipation is the reason we saw Roger Federer hit as many unseen and spectacular shots that we did. He was at the ball with, what seemed like loads of time and face it, when you have more time than usual on the ball, depending on your level you can basically do anything with it.
I'm sure alot of you have been in "The Zone". I have a few times and I know when you are in the zone you seem like you have unlimited time, it feels like you can do anything and really you can do most things. It's the most amazing thing ever. You can hit nearly any shot you like but that doesn't mean you can hit it as hard as the pros because obviously you have to be as physically strong as them and it depends on your technique.
Whereas if you get to the ball with little time to spare you are limited in the shots that you can make.
So, that is my belief as to why Roger isn't at his usual best. I believe that if he "got his old anticaption back" then he would go on to win atleast 4 if not 5 or 6 more grand slams.
Now, I don't want this thread to turn into one that bashes the hell out of Federer or praises the hell out of him.
Even though I am a die-hard Federer fan and have the upmost respect for him I also have huge respect for Nadal and Djokovic because they are amazing players and it is amazing what they have accomplished.
I would like to see Nadal win Wimbledon one day, maybe next year though as Fed has to set the record this year
And I'd love to see both him and Djokovic win the US Open but not Djokovic win Wimbledon. I don't see him being a great Wimbledon champion. It doesn't suit him.
