Hey, in a bit of a auto dilemma here. I have a 97' Corolla. Last night it blew the EFI (electronic fuel injection) fuse while I was driving and the whole car died. It happened again today when my mom was driving it. I'm just wondering if anybody knows why this fuse keeps on blowing and is it easy to fix?

Thanks in advance,
rm

A short - but don't take any notice of me - I would've done better with the Goo, but was too late, ie whatever you do, don't wash it!
Good Luck!;)

Hey Pat, (I can't believe Pat drives a corolla who would have guessed)

C O R O L L Aing along no advice just ring John Law maybe he might have a spare corolla to give you , seriously sounds like a short . Good luck.

lmao, with pat's modesty I wouldn't be surprised if he actually drove a corolla around! Yes, I did some research and figured it must be a short as well. It's just a question of finding where it is occurring. My mom crashed it into a tree at a low speed after losing traction of icy roads (now you know it's not pat) a few weeks back and since then, the front bumper was replaced as well as the headlights. There was no damage to the engine block afaik, but perhaps something was knocked lose. If anybody else can chime in that'd be superb. Thanks.

Yeah a short, has water been under the hood, lots of water near the fuse box and sometimes when the heater core goes bad ( passanger side ) they leak and the floor board under the dash is where the computer (ECU) is at and may be getting wet. Also have you been screwing around with the electrical system (ie) stereo/driving lights or what-not ? maybe you need the check the level of the blinker fluid .

Thanks for your input sd,

I haven't been fiddling with anything on the car. It would have been the mechanics/body repair people who repaired the car after a minor front end accident with a tree. I never thought about water leaking on a wire or the computer system, thanks.

Sure, no problem. The EFI is a complete different wiring harness from the rest of the cars wiring. it's done that way so the fuel system is "stand alone" for trouble shooting problems. I would make sure the fuse block under the hood is not cracked from the impact. I'm also a fan.

We are taking in the car tomorrow, thanks for the input peeps, I'll let you know what the culprit was.

Sd, what are you a fan of? PR?

ground short, check all areas in the vicinity of the repaired area. A pinched wire or a slight notch in the wire insulation is all it would take. May be hard to find with the naked eye. Your local auto mechanic can do a electrical system diagnosis for about $40/hr.

Whatever you do...DO NOT put a larger fuse it it!

You know PR from the PS2 Game?!?! YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS! (I have a feeling you aren't, fingers are crossed at least)

We took the corolla to the dealer and they said it's definitely a short, it's just a matter of finding it (at 89.99 an hour). We haven't done anything yet, we are waiting for our insurance adjuster to come to the dealer and see it. Also the headlights were improperly installed by the people who did the body work from the recent accident, so it's all really up in the air and frustrating! I can't wait for sight to sight teleportation (the thoroughly researched version, I'd like to show up at my destination with my lungs intact)

Yo, I got the car back. It turned out to be the oxygen sensor, located underneath the car, snow was getting in there and causing a short. My mom must have damaged it when she drove over the snowbank and into the tree. Thanks again for the input.
