Any Photographers Out There?

I'm upgrading from my Nikon D3000 to a D7000... I've taken approx. 30K pictures on that Nikon... But it has its limitations... I've done a fair amount of shooting with a Canon EOS 60D (grandmother's camera, she has had it for years and still hasn't figured out how to use it :roll: ) but I'm getting another Nikon since I already have lenses. I'll post pictures once someone contributes. Wildlife photography is more of my thing, but I'm going to try and photograph some of the Delray ATP 250 in the near future. I also have my rugged Nikon AW100 point and shoot, great camera btw.

I used to 'do' a fair amount of photography, especially whilst I was at Uni. I have an old Minolta X-700 which I inherited, it's an extremely capable 35mm SLR.

I really fancy getting back into photography, but starting afresh is a big investment again! Not sure which camera I would go for now either!

Not that much of an investment if you go the DSLR route, which is what you should do anyway. You can pick up a used Panasonic GH1 for around $200, and that will get you on a good start as long as you don't plan on pushing it beyond 1600 ISO.

^^^true, but i'm the kind of person who would rather buy big in the first place - if you're going to do it - do it properly! :D

Didn't somebody (sony maybe?) buy Minolta and uses their mounts on their dslrs, crop sizes would be off but it'd give you more lenses straight away.
My first slr was a 35mm minolta too, a dynax, loved that camera took it everywhere.

My brother in law was the one who made me think there was some connection, he had an Alpha a year or so ago and used his old minolta lenses on it.Got a cannon now which is nice.I've been dabbling with samsungs mirrorless offerings the nx family offer decent options and good prints.
I didn't know they'd bought olympus.

Sony did not buy Olympus. They invested in Olympus by giving them money in exchange for shares and I believe one seat on the board.

I'm not a photograper but I like to take pictures from time to time. I'm not sure what this thread is about. What do you want to discuss.

BTW, dpreview dot com is a popular photo board where, like here, males goes around insulting one another over which brand of camera and lenses are best.

Cool pictures, though I would play a little with the exposure settings. You might find that the color pops a little more with different ISO settings.

I am still playing with the new camera.... (Nikon D7100)

With DSLRs I would suggest to go full frame if you want to do really serious photography. Maybe have a look at the Nikon 600. Once you have the right gear, then its time to really get into the techniques for your particular interest. Finally, learning how to manipulate photos in Photoshop is what really takes photography over the edge.

Unfortunately it would've cost too much money to get FX lenses since I already have a few DX lenses. Although from here out all lenses I am getting will be FX. Within a few years I will have a full frame and new lenses. Right now I'm stuck with a 55-200 and a 18-135 (might be 18-105 not sure) but I'm selling the 55-200 and picking up a used Sigma 50-500 (aka Bigma)... Little bits of money from stock photography and stringing. I have a boat trailer I'm going to sell and hopefully get $400-500 for.

I bet in 2 or 3 years the cost of good full frame gear will fall into the prosumer range. Have fun!

Sooo glad I don't have to buy my tennis kit as buying photography kit is expensive and addictive!

My girlfriend makes a living doing photography actually! She had some of her photography in National Geographic last year. :)

My girlfriend used to use Flickr before she started using shutterfly. Now she uses Smugmug. Shutterfly worked extremely well IMO, while Smugmug is a bit more professional with the coding/design aspect. :)

I bought a D600 on that super sweet 2k deal last Christmas. Its picture quality is simply amazing. With a quick Lightroom process ISO 6400 shots are very clean and ISO12800 is very usable. But the oil spot issue killed it - at 300 shutter clicks I got noticeable oil spot even at f/8. I had to return the camera and get back to my trusty D5000.

I had a business photographing hockey for several of the schools in the area. Even shot in Slovakia with one of the local teams plus a National Championship.

Canon 7D was/is my weapon of choice.

I like the redwinged blackbird photo db10s... it's neat how the feathers on the colored patch look like brushwork.

Photographing wildlife and tricky light are the two things that make me wish I had a higher-end camera. I've basically given up of birds with the point-and-shoot-- too frustrating.

The car picture is pretty cool!

I think the one with the pipes and brick wall would benefit from some cropping--the sidewalk and mailbox are harshly lit and IMO a little distracting.

I try not to do too much post-processing (I'm not good enough at it to avoid unnatural-looking shots) but a little judicious cropping can make a big difference.

Avles, thanks for the comments. I imagine the car shot would be better if it was a black Lincoln town car - it would have more urban feel to it. As for the brick wall, now that you mentioned it, the composition does feel a bit loose and probably will benefit from some cropping.

I actually prefer the silver I think--adds more light-dark contrast (just a gut reaction). I really like that you are catching it just as it's starting to cross into the other lane-- did you use a burst function to get that moment?

Just curious, I see there's USTA logo in the picture of the two guys talking---were you at a tennis event?

I used single shutter release and took maybe 3-4 pics. This shot turned out to be better and I was able to keep other cars blurry.

Good eyes :) It was actually a Martin Luther King Day event. But yea there were a couple of USTA booths including a serving wall, where I saw a kid with a pretty smooth serve motion and took a few pics of him.

Thanks. As a gearhead I just had to ask :) I think the extra reach of APS-C does help with the shots.
