I like to play with leather grips.
I tried leather grips (with no overgrip). Did not like it. It felt too slippery.
I'm 57 and played with wooden frames in the 70's, and all the raquets back then had leather grips and there were no overgrips. I saw McEnroe on TV the other day playing with just a leather grip and no overgrip on his Head Frame but he was playing inside so the temperature was controlled. I got used to the feel of an overgrip over leather grips, but an overgrip over alot of synthetic grips can feel to spongy at times and I can't feel the bevels as good as I would like,. It's interesting to see what grips people are using if they're not using an overgrip.
It's apples and oranges. If you use overgrips all the time and then try leather you may not like it. I began to play when overgrips were not available, at least in my place. Players back then used different ways to make leather grips non slippery. I feel the handle better with leather, and can live with little slippery if it will happen.
I play with replacement grips only. It feels ok. Did not feel much better when applying an overgrip over replacement grip. Only advantage I could see to the overgrip was to save wear on the replacement grip, so you end up replacing the replacement grip less often. I chose to just use the replacement grip only and replace every 2 weeks.
When I tried leather grips, it felt too slippery. Much prefer the feel of the replacement grip. Don't really get why these
expensive leather grips are popular.
@Raul SJ What are your favorite replacement grips?
