Are we turning into a whining society?

Regardless of the general whining on the notorious section of this forum, I believe that we are whining like never before. A guy at work (joined exactly 6 months ago) just complained that he is fed up of doing the same job which is meant for 'junior' guys and wanted to discuss his next role (read promotion) and then he went on a rant on the office system, the nature of his work yada yada yada.

This is not a one off. Are we complaining way too much, being nitpicky on every tiny issue, bisecting every statement, every move made by another? Depressing, really!

Are you referring to the thread Saboosh created about the long lines at a fast food chain?

Back in the day young men registered to fight in the world wars voluntarily with a smile on their face and their wives and girlfriends would be proud of them. Nowadays people complain and rant about the coffee machine at the office. There should be a balance. If I had to choose though, I'd go with the guy who refuses to fight for the interests of the oligarchs and also complain about the coffee machine.

At least your co-worker is not whining about the job being too tough. He wants to do more.

a huge number guys who wanted to be on the front lines for glory, pride etc. were in coffins weeks, even days later, especially relevant for the first world war which was supposed to be over in weeks, so I'm not sure they would be smiling if they could foresee their own deaths

maybe this is too dark but I really dislike this glorification of war, sending men to war for king and country and glory etc. and then when they get torn apart on the front lines, they become posthumous "heroes"

some of the whining just sounds like pointing out flaws in the system

we have a similar guy at work who likes to preach about corrupt managers, assl1cking employees and how the fat cat CEO and upper managers of the company hoover up massive bonuses while the bonuses for the lower end employees are completely cut even though they contribute a big role to making the company actually work and exist

most of the upper managers can't even do the most basic job of an employee in our company, so what exactly qualifies them for that paycheck + bonuses?

now, this guy can be very annoying especially if you're not in the mood to listen to that kind of stuff but he makes extremely sound points and he's been proven correct on several occasions and you can't fault him on that even if the delivery or timing isn't the best

Everything is so angsty.
It's easy to get swept along.

Perhaps we should only whine and comment on what we are prepared to actually do something about?

Whining is usually associated, but not necessarily, with impotence.

And there's the clue. Democracy has failed citizens and reduced them to an irrelevance to be manipulated by spin.

Problems go unadressed but the media still provides a forum for inchoate ramblings which the political system eventually re-packages for you as a loaded choice.

Struggling dairy farmers will be elated if whining becomes more prevalent...demand will increase for cheese to go with that whine.

Still whining about everyone's reasoning, I see.

I’m not adverse to hearing opinions I agree with. I just can’t stand to listen to the stupid people who can’t understand the truth

I am entitled to everything.

Whine when any or all are not met.

Its not depressing, its annoying. Eventually you realize your talking to people you dont really want to.

Not you of coarse :)

It’s more typical for right wings complaining about the lefties. It’s something that is a part of their ideology.

What they have in common is that the latter invented the former term, so SJW is nothing other than right-wing whining.

Delusional.

I thought you were right ring? I have examples but i know you dont care about facts :-D:-D:-D

Given that Larry David is the god of whining for comic effect, this post is obviously no coincidence.

Yeah I do vote more to the right, but not anywhere near how the right wings in here are.

Nobody wants to die but people willing to risk their life for social acceptance back then says so much. Nowadays nobody gives a sh1t even if they know they will be isolated by society and I like that.

Fair enough until he called his present work of being 'below' his level.

I hear ya - I would still rather listen to a person who has spent time in a system to start complaining about it. Six months is too short. It takes that long to even understand everyone for example. I have no issues with asking for more work. I had an issue with him saying that it's not his job and that it's meant for 'lesser' people. There is no job too big or too small. In lab settings unless you work with instruments yourself, you are never going to get familiarized with the nuances of it. He wanted to directly manage people doing the job. Guess what, instruments require 3-4 years and hundreds of tests to be familiar with. I admire people who have no issues with doing any job when the need arises.

This second part is very apt. Something I am beginning to share as an ideal too. Arm chair criticism does nothing.

No clue. I don't like associating with wings. On another thread I had already mentioned that bucketing myself into something just shoots me in the foot. Constant learning, constant questioning has always helped instead :)
