Lol ... woman on WTA tour thus wta :) but really a hybrid ... her take back start atp, then has an element of wta when it stops in the cocked position, and then atp again in terms of contact/followthrough . . .

Lol. So now we are seeing that many (most?) players on the WTA hit an "ATP" forehand. This distinction is meaningless. Why not use some other names for these two types of forehands? Why call them WTA vs ATP? Because some guy on YouTube found a handful of players on the WTA hit one style while Fed and Djokovic hit the other style? Just call them different names, not WTA and ATP.

As in the guy, 4.5 wanting to improve, her forehand starts ATP, then drops to PAT WTA Anke Huber forehand.

It's both. I like the video on this.. But the whole ATP/WTA thing is a generalization. This woman has the short backswing of an ATP - but the kind of fixed wrist postion of the WTA. I see a lot of amateurs hit like that. Federer and the other men that use the so called ATP style get a ton of lag and snap that most people don't really get..

I cannot agree. She might have no that much and defined lag, but she releases her racquet before contact, not drives through with bent wrist (like Serena e.g.). This is the key point of increased RHS production which all men pros use.

What do you mean wrist snap in atp forehand?

I don't think we disagree.. There is some snap - but hardly any lag.. Fed has huge amount of lag going from neutral to fully laid back..

There is wrist snap in the forehand - but its passive. So not sure 'wrist snap' is the ideal phrase for this - but it the normal one. The racquet is held loose but the forearm is loose as well. This lets the racquet get loaded as the swing is up to the ball and yet the racquet will eventually catch up and pass the hand ..

So the lay back of the racquet - that's the lag - but this happens because of loose forearm/grip - and not because of forced lay back. And the racquet release (wrist going from fully laid back in the slot - to almost neutral at contact - that's the snap.

This combination is something that a lot of men do - and very few women do. I'd say this is even true at the amateur level. I think women are more risk averse so the idea of cocking the wrist back and holding it there is a lot more comforting. Serena for example forcibly lays her wrist back and holds it there until after the ball is long gone. The Fed style OTOH feels almost loosey goosey..

Contrary to common theories on this board if you understand the idea - I believe that most players can go out and hit like this. It's not like some impossible trick - but OTOH you don't necessarily get instantly great results with this style either. People think Fed has a great forehand because of his lag and snap - I tend to think he has a great forehand that happens to have a lot of lag and snap. He could hit awesome forehands Serena style if he wanted too. Fed's Serena style forehand might be better then most guys on the tour as well.
