Babolat Pro Hurricane (mains) and Luxilon ALU Rough (crosses) hybrid

My nephew recently played extremely well in a regional tennis tournament and attributed his markedly improved performance to changing from an all Babolat Pro Hurricane setup to a hybrid with Babolat Pro Hurricane comprising the mains and Luxilon ALU Rough comprising the crosses. He felt he had much better control and better spin with this new setup for his Prince O3 Tour racquet. I am wondering why his stringer would use the Luxilon ALU Rough on the crosses rather than the mains if one was attempting to provide a hybrid that would generate more spin. I also have a feeling my nephew probably played better because his rackets were freshly strung immediately prior to the tournament. While at the tournament, one of the pros there told me to stick with the "high end" polys such as Babolat and Luxilon since they are clearly better than the cheaper polys. If my nephew played significantly better because his racquets were freshly strung, I might want to consider using a less expensive poly to string his racquet much more frequently. I am reluctant to do this, however, based on the comments made by the pro about cheaper polys. Any suggestions for a less expensive hybrid that would play similarly to Babolat Pro Hurricane (mains) and Luxilon ALU Rough (crosses)? Thank you in advance for your replies.

Ive heard good and band comments about ashaway monogut... seems cheap though maybe worth ago.

Why would you hybrid two polys? Totally pointless, if you want more spin use full ALU rough.

You would hybrid 2 polys because polys have different power levels. You may want to use Poly Plasma on mains which has a good cut on the ball but is low powered. You would then use PolyStar Energy or ALU on the crosses to beef up the power.

From reading this board, I would say that this dude doesn't know what he's talking about. Time and again I've read how Luxilon doesn't hold tension and goes dead(pros don't have to worry as they get fresh strings daily). There are other polys, copolys that play much longer with better feel etc. There's a wealth of information here that provide first hand accounts of experiences with strings. I would trust them before some off the cuff remarks from 'Pro Nobody'. There are plenty of 'pros' here too, some who even string regularly for the big boys.

Anyway, Babolat and Luxilon charge more simply because they can.

As a first time Luxilon user I agree. The last few string jobs I have done on my racquets I have strung them with Luxilon Big Banger Alu, and Gosen crosses. I too noted how "dead" they went after about two hours. However, during those two hours it was a wonderful ride. :)
