Beluga Sturgeon / The Most Expensive Fish

The Beluga is a rare species .. it lives in the Black Sea and spawns in the Danube River.
its one of the oldest species on Earth its been around for some 220 million years.
The caviar is world renowned and can make a man very very wealthy but the number of fish is diminishing due to pollution and poachers( besides the Power station that hinders them from using more of the Danube to spawn in)
99% a of this species is gone experts say.
what do you suggest to be done to save this animal and the economy /business
it generates in its natural environment ..?? For example,
Sfantu Gheorgie was the town that had a good economy because of the legal fishing of the sturgeon but now its pretty much screwed.

I would do what Mercedes Benz did with Maybach -- let it die a quiet death. Maybachs and Beluga are both rich men's toys that don't warrant a subsidy of tax dollars to preserve them. I'm more concerned about things like the North Atlantic cod that are disappearing -- and that's due to overfishing, not environmental factors.

I say Save the DNA and clone it and make millions of belugas. and those delicious caviars will be available for everyone.

What else are you going to subsidize with tax dollars? Poor people? What the hell good is that gonna do ya?

Actually giving money to poor people is way better for the ecomony in general than just about anything else.

We will just feed the DNA database to a 3D tissue printer and it will print out a fish in a few minutes

I have some friends from caspian sea area. They said back in the 60's it was so cheap to have Beluga caviar. Even meat is very good as kabobs. But due to overfishing and they take at least 15 years to reach adulthood, its reach the endangered status as it is now. I heard now fisherman actually do surgery to extract the eggs and release back into the wild.
Its truely a wild looking and glorious fish.

Think you are right .. some are trying to find female fish and give them hormones to make them produce more.. Hmm.. maybe a good idea , maybe a bad one.

here are some people who know a bit more about this king of caviar fish

That's quite a statement and I'm sure you think you have good reason for making it. Please share.

Well, usually when money is being considered to be distributed by the government to "stimulate the economy" first crack is usually given to the "job creators" ie businesses or if the speaker still is trying to promote trickle down, the wealthy, since they are the private lives of professional job creators.

A couple of problems with those ideas: businesses create jobs to make more money, not because they have more excess money lying around. For example, if by hiring another worker I can produce more product (that I already have demand for) and thus make more $, I will hire another worker, since his salary will be covered by the increased revenue, I don't need a tax break to come up with his salary. Conversely, if hiring another worker won't make me more money, I won't hire him whether I have more money in the bank (from a tax break) or not.

As to tax breaks for wealthy individuals, they already are purchasing everything they want... they're wealthy. If you give them a tax break, they'll just buy more investments (which is ok if getting the market to increase in value is the goal, which it is never stated to be), so local businesses will not get much stimulation.

OTOH, if you give poor people money, they will NOT invest it... they're poor, they have needs and wants that are going unmet, they will spend it. Thus local businesses will move more inventory, will demand more from producers, who'll have to hire more to meet the demand etc.

220 million years was a pretty good ride. No species lives forever.

Have a benefit dinner so that all that donate 10 grand can eat the last of the Beluga Sturgeon. Use that money to save the polar bears.

A visionary insightful comment of a more mindless sort.
The lack of respect is impressive in its kind and soft touch.

Thread title should have been "Beluga, the GOAT"

Or "was the beluga's the peak of fish"

Anyway, what i really wanna know is what made that bellugga so unreachable ?

My money on the Celeiocanth, for the most expensive fish.
You reminded me of Enlightened Coelacanth. What ever happened to that guy?

Wait, isn't Beluga caviar banned? I remember having a conversation with a very knowledgeable caviar salesman at Kastrup airport in 2010 and he said that it's illegal to sell Beluga caviar, at least in the EU...

He became the toast of the poasts for Caviar slaves in the Rants n Raves section. A true fishy character that flew under the radar singular perfection. LOL
