Best Poly for tension maintenance?

Hello, I am about to buy some polys to use in a hybrid with soft multis or gut. I have read that polys lose tension and performance quickly. Can someone please recommend a poly that will maintain tension and playability for a long time? 17 or 18 gauge.

Attributes I am looking for:
Tension maintenance
Soft feel (easy on the arm)
Control
Spin

Not concerned about:
Price
Durability
Power

Thanks for your help!!

Try Pro Supex Big Ace 1.22 or Micro(1.15). I've benn testing if for about 2 weeks and it's been easy on the arm so far (my main concern). I use it as mains in a hybrid with Pro Supex Titan 1.25. Per my DT measurements with a ERT 300, string it high and let the tension come back to you. It lost 3 DT during the first 48 hrs and the first 2 hrs of hitting. Then it stabilized and it's been great.

After trying many polys, the best I have found that meets your criteria is the Weisscannon Silverstring 1.20mm (17L). Easy on the arm yet crisp, fine control (like SPPP), great spin in the 17L gauge and very good tension maintenance (one of the best polys in this regard. Works well with a variety of tensions, even over 60 lbs. Pro Supex Big Ace 1.22 is also a nice string, but has less spin potential and is prone to trampolining in my experience. Since price is not an issue, give WC Silverstring a try.

Definitely Pro Supex Big Ace. It has everything you want: soft, good tension maintenance, spin friendly, and control is great. And it is only $8 a set, and $80 a reel.

According to.............

According to the latest USRSA tests for poly string, the string that held tension the best was Tecnifibre Promix 17 with a stiffness rating of 199lbs/in and tension loss of 13.72lbs after initial play (120mi/hr serves and 90mi/hr ground strokes).

For comparison the softest poly was Babolat Pro Hurricane 18 with a stiffness rating of 187lbs/in, but tension loss was 22.27lbs. The stiffest poly was Pacific Poly Force 16 at 320lbs/in with a tension loss of 17.84lbs. The poly with the least tension loss was Gamma Dura Blast 16 with a tension loss of 12.68lbs but the stiffness rating was 303lbs/in.

ProSupex Big Ace 1.22 came in at a stiffness rating of 225lbs/in and tension loss of 18.68lbs. Lux Big Banger line came in with stiffness rating from 226 to 290lbs/in, with tension loss raging from 16.29 to 28.98lbs. Weiss Cannon Silverstring and MVS Focus Hex has not been tested yet, but will be soon. Hope this helps.

Good luck in your search.

From my personal experience I think SPPP and PHT would be perfect for what you're looking for.

I currently use Laserfibre Kryptonite, which is SPPP, in the mains and Laserfibre Rough Cut in the crosses and it's pretty comfy in my stiff frame at 60lbs. You could soften it up even more with a nice multi or gut in the crosses.

But the thing I like the best is it seems to hold tension really well as does the PHT.

Good Luck.

promix is a weird string. it's half multi half poly. i remember prestretching it like a multi but it was way stiffer feeling. very unique.

Big Ace = Luxilon without the price tag. I can't tell a difference between Big Ace 16 and Luxilon BBO 16.

There is no such thing as a poly string + good tension maintenance!
I agree. That is poly's only weakness, IMO. But if you restring more than once a month, it won't become too apparent. After about a month, I can definitely tell a slight difference.

The things I look for in a poly are similar to yours, and I use SPPPP and CyberPower. They perform similarly, CyberPower seems to grab the ball more, but that doesn't seem to make a difference in my results, just the feel of the string.

I know it's been asked many times but I thought one more wouldn't hurt. I am still looking for a poly for full bed 17 to 19 gauge at tension range 30-35 lb on Head Radical rev. The only parameter I am looking at is best tension maintenance.
The ones I have tried so far:
Volkl cyclone18G
Volkl cyclone tour 18G
Kirschbaum proline evo 17
Luxilon 4G 16l
Solinco tour bite 18,19G
Luxilon alu power rough 16l

I really like the Prince Tour XT 18g, seems to hold tension well. Have been finding it on the bay of E fairly cheap.

Solinco Revolution 16 gauge is pretty good. Drops about 5-6 pounds after the first hour or two and then holds steady until the texture is gone or you break it. Here's my logs in a 95 18x20 frame from the last 2 stringings.

Strung at 57
@ 2 hours of play 51.7
@ 5 hours of play 50.4
@ 7 hours of play 49.6
@ 8 hours of play 49.6

Strung at 57
@ 4 hours of play 50.6
@ 7 hours of play 49.8
@ 8 hours of play 49.3
@10 hours of play 48.9

I like to play with a poly that plays well/ controllable for about two weeks then snaps. Solinco Tour Bite and Solinco Hyper G are working well in my RF97's. Easy on the arm seems to be more about tension in my racquets. Leaving poly in racquets for a long period of time is not a good idea from what I have experienced. Poly goes dead and tough on the arm. My preference is to play with poly 3-4 sessions and then cut it out. Works well with training schedule. Train two times a week on the court and three times a week in the gym. Avoid injuries and play better tennis that way. It's all about finding a routine that works with racquet/stringing, on-court training, and gym/cross training. Longevity is the goal.

No sythetic material holds tension like gut. So, use gut.
