Big Ace - 16g v. 17g v. Micro?

Looking for some feedback from anyone who has used multiple versions of Pro Supex Big Ace. I am using Big Ace 16g m's and Forten Sweet 17g x's in my K95 and I like it compared to SPPP, Cyberflash, Kirschbaum ProLine II, but it bothered my arm pretty bad and I usually don't have problems. Seems like a little more control, better feel, and substantially better spin. All of the other poly's listed were 17g versions and I had no issue with breaking them or arm problems. So, I am thinking that a 17g or micro might be better on my arm and still offer the playability I liked.

Anyone like to compare their experience with the available versions -- and your setups? Thanks - G$

The 16 gauge is just very very durable. I also thought it lacked in feel. If you want firmness, then 16 gauge would be fine. I use the 17 gauge (1.25mm). It is pretty good. 17 gauge has a little more feel and spin. Control is the same. 17 gauge perhaps has a little more power. I tried the micro once. Nice overall. Kind of thin for me. :)
I really cannot compare the micro to the 17 guage though cause I have a lack of hitting "experience" with the micro. Maybe someone will help you.

I've used the 17g and I'm currently using the Micro, and I prefer the micro. The micro has tons of pop and lots of feel for a poly. It feels different than anything that I've ever tried. It's one of those strings that really stands out as unique to me, but that might be because I've never used anything as thin. It's plenty durable--especially for a poly. So far I have strung racquets with it twice and both times it has outlived the 17g Cyber Power.

Thanks Pro! Did you use it (17g) in a full setup or hybrid?

Jonolau...any feedback?

I had one set of 1.28mm BA a couple of months back and compared it against 1.25mm and Micro 1.15mm in 3 MFil300 racquets I had. I never really put forth comments on 1.28mm earlier as I thought that it wouldn't be of significance. But now that you asked ...

1.28mm - I thought that this was an overkill for a poly string. It was thick and lacked feel. However, it is only recommended for chronic string breakers needing a little more life from a full poly stringbed. Not suitable for recreational players.

1.25mm - This is the middle path to take for most recreational/tournament players. It has a good balance of feel and durability, though for flat-hitters, the string will last too long before the next string change when the string loses feel.

1.22mm - Suitable for flat-hitters/rec players and those who are not chronic string breakers. It has the traditional comfort of Big Ace, whilst offering the best feel of normal BA. If find that this has the best feel for a poly/syn gut hybrid especially when coupled with 1.30mm syn gut crosses, offering both feel and durability.

1.15mm - A real surprise here. Given the thin gauge, it lasts really long as a full poly job for flat hitters. Plus, the thinness gives great feel and feedback and is stiff enough not to have a trampoliny feel. Great fun for hard hitting flat shots, slices and volleys. Heavy top-spinners need not apply as it won't last long!

Spot on comments and I concur with you.

Thank you J!

From your post: this has the best feel for a poly/syn gut hybrid especially when coupled with 1.30mm syn gut crosses, offering both feel and durability.

Are you suggesting a thicker cross to add durability or feel? I am under the impression that a thinner cross would provide better feel??

While I was a frequent string breaker with Mono's and Syn Gut's, durability on Poly's/Poly hybrids has not been an issue at all.

Gooch, how are the forten sweet crosses? I've got a half set and was thinking of trying them out. I tend to like softer syn gut, is sweet a stiffer or softer syn gut?

thx

I find them to be pretty soft...the other cross that everyone mentions on here is Gosen OG Micro - I liked the Forten better. The other cross that I like is PSGD 17...I am putting in an order for some 18g BA and maybe I'll try to hybrid that with PSGD 18...

Thx for the feedback. I had a friend give me a pack of forten hybrid which has sweet. I think i'll do likewise and string it up with some ba 18.
