Black Knight vs Lynx Tour

Hey guys, I play with VS 17/Lynx Tour 17 and I really like it. With regards to the poly side of things, Lynx Tour is really consistent, predictable, excellent control and the lifespan amazing. I really understand why TW play test raved it so much.

On Black Knight I’ve been reading some really amazing stuff but there’s really no data on TW strings database with regards to stiffness, tension loss, spin and power which I could easily have just a high level comparison..

Does anyone have any insights or data? Also on launch angle as that’s quite important for me..

Those are probably my two favorite poly strings, and I played them in pretty close succession. I think the biggest difference is feel — Lynx Tour felt noticeably stiffer to me, although I wouldn't say BK is super soft. Lynx Tour might have a slight edge in spin, but BK has plenty of bite. I found both very predictable and durable, with good tension maintenance. I like the feel of BK, so that's what I went with, but I don't think you can go wrong between them.

All those notes are for a full bed. I haven't tried either as a cross for gut. How's the durability on gut/LT?

Lynx Tour is much better than Black Knight. Similar stiffness and launch angle, although you didnt write how hard you hit the ball. Lynx Tour has a nice pocketing feel too

This is just my experience on playing doubles matches only. Racquet strung at 55/53, for the first 2 hours or so it felt stiff, then it started to feel much better 2-8 hours period. Now over the 8 hours more powerful, still playing well, holding tension well, just sometimes a little bit trampoline but just very occasionally. Still going strong I’d say. No sign of poly wearing the gut and I do attack the ball a lot.

The USRSA provides lab test results for both strings for string stiffness and tension stability.

Based on the results, it is very difficult to compare those strings. Lynx Tour appears to be an extremely stiff string where is Black Knight is rather on the lower end. Tension stability is about the same.

To be honest, we do not collect those data from other companies. We had to find the data for Lynx online ourselves.

Lynx Tour is firmer. It also plays bigger than its advertised size - the 17 gauge felt closer to 16 gauge to me, for example. The launch angle is lower than I would have expected for a 17 gauge string.

I don’t find BK particularly soft, but it is indeed softer than Lynx Tour. I find the feel is a bit more “plasticky” - particularly when it’s fresh. After a short break in this seems to go away (for me at least). The gauge is more true to size, and thus the launch angle is a little more what I would expect based on gauge.

Both strings hold tension really well, and offer an excellent window of playability. Can’t really go wrong either way.
