That's because he has the game to beat Nadal when he's playing his best and Rafa isn't -- on hardcourts anyway. I'm not sure about any other surface, even grass.

James was playing the best tennis of anyone at Indian Wells -- well above Rafa, and even arguably better than Federer.

But once Federer started being Federer, James went "Oh, no, I may beat him. Can't do that." Again, the proverbial cheap card table, which is what we are used to seeing against Fed.

What was great earlier in the week became ordinary, and not because Fed played 5 sets of exquisite tennis. Blake just didn't hold up his side of the deal.

I can't blame someone like Almagro for not holding up against the Fed onslaught. But geez, someone like Nalbandian should be able to do so.

If they can't, who can?

I think we know the answer.
