Everyone is thinking about Medvedev, Thiem, Nadal and Djokovic...

But the winner won't be a player from that list...

The champion of the AO will be none other than...

This is not a joke. Book it.

Edit: I changed my mind, it’s going to be Medvedev. 8-B

I expect that the crowd will boo ******** every time he's on court and that will actually inspire him to win it.

Although he so desperately wants to be loved, it's the fact that crowds dislike him that spurs him on the most.

How does one make a post that's not just wrong, but several layers of wrong?

Djokovic is a pretty clear favorite. Even money compared to the trio of Nadal, Thiem, and Medvedev at around +400 to +500
he got beat by thiem, nadal, medvedev...struggled vs tsitsipas in recent outings. Def not a clear favorite

Is it really a curse if he's won there before? I feel like Murray deserves to say he's cursed in Melbourne much more than Rafa does cuz at least Rafa has a winner's trophy in his cabinet

Yes, Fed famously put a curse on Rafa following the AO 2009 final which is in place to this day.

I just checked the odds again:

Djokovic
Thiem
Medvedev
Nadal
Tsitsipas
Zverev
Rublev
Kyrgios
Sinner
Raonic

In that order

AO 2019 beating Federer and then FO 2020 were both great runs, and he has a beautiful game, much easier on the eyes than Medvedev or Thiem.

He is just hopeless at reading room temperature of the crowd, isn't he? :sneaky:

A couple of years ago I was at a Davis Cup match between Zverev and deMinaur. Demon was up 2 sets to 1 and 3-0 in the fourth. Zverev had dropped his shoulders (even more than usual) and was basically sulking his way to a loss.

A group of very loud Aussie spectators (they call themselves The Fanatics) started celebrating the win when Zverev went down break point. Sasha's mood visably changed from sulking to determined defiance and it was the Fanastics that obviously inspired it.

Zverev won the match in 5.

Lendl did it in the USO many times. McEnroe also used to feed off a negative crowd. More recently Medvedev did it at the USO. I've also seen ******** do it in the past. Some players just like the "me against the world" feeling.

He will form a heel stable with Med and Zed, they will barge into "good guys" matches and slam chairs into their backs, the umpire inexplicably not seeing them.

Murray got deservedly owned in all of his AO finals. He wasn't even close in any of them. Can't compare that to Nadal who lost after being up a break in the fifth set of 2 finals, and also was injured in another final.

How can Medvedev be in front of Nadal? I admit that Thiem deserves it after his recent hardcourt Slam results, but Medvedev? He wouldn’t be the favourite against anyone of Djokovic/Nadal/Thiem and is also the one of those 4 who most likely loses before reaching the SF.

Tsitsipas is a step below the top contenders, but he is a contender no doubt. I can tell he is trying to break through that ceiling. He needs a good draw, then who knows.

Medvedev would be a CLEAR favorite against Nadal.

They're (Thiem, Medvedev, Nadal) all effectively tied...very tight odds between #2 and #4.

How many people will there be in the stadium to boo the Joker?
