Calling all Baiardo experts

Went into work today and immediately noticed the turn table is binding - not rotating smoothly like it should. Feels like something is caught in there, but a cursory look with a flashlight did not reveal anything. Is there a bushing in there that can go bad? Anybody know which hex screws to remove to remove the turn table and check if there is anything caught in there? I tried locking the brake and then unlocking it - to see if it was sticking. No joy. Maybe the brake needs to be adjusted? Asked my coworker about it and they commented that they noticed it - that it just suddenly became that way, with no apparent rhyme or reason.

Anybody got any ideas? @Herb? @SavvyStringer? @uk_skippy? Thanks!

First thing I would do is remove the turntable. This will allow you to narrow down the part causing problems. As soon as the table is off you can check the table brake. There are 4 rubber pads that, maybe one has come loose and causing it to catch. Then you can check the axle. If it is binding you may have something that caught in it, or maybe even the friction brake.

@Herb removed the turn table. Nothing obvious in terms of debris causing the issue. Cleaned nonetheless and reassembled. No dice.

Removed turn table again. Removed all brake pads. Reassembled. Still binds.

Removed turn table a third time. Spun the axle by hand. Seems to operate smoothly. Don’t have proper tools with me to remove the friction brake to inspect. In spite of it moving smoothly by hand, I’m suspecting the friction brake may have given up the ghost.

I haven't experienced anything like what you mentioned above with any of the 3-4 Baiardo's I've used. I know it seems dumb and you probably already checked it, but its not that little flip switch on the underside of the table that changes the friction so that it doesn't just wildly spin when the machine is tilted is it? Its on the left side of the machine under the table and it flips up or down depending on if you want some resistance on the turn table so that it doesn't just spin when the machine tilts.

Yup I gotcha @SavvyStringer - the lever for the friction brake. My best guess now is someone flipped that switch and nobody noticed. I’ve pretty much ruled out something caught in there causing the binding...and the friction brake seems to work as it should, depending on the lever setting.

Still, when the the friction brake is set to off...to me the turn table still seems to stop prematurely when spun. Maybe it’s just in my head. Ya know, my wife tells me I’m nuts all the time. Maybe I should start listening.

Hello,
Does anyone know what the two male screws are for at the base of the Baiardo? I can’t see anything that came with the machine that is suppose to go on there...

Ah of course ..I did notice when assembling but didn’t click to me that it was that..I thought it was for perhap a reel stand.

Hey @am1899 what was the result/fix for this? This is happening to mine and I am not sure where the culprit lies. Friction brake is off, I can give the table a good solid spin with some force, and it won't do a full 360 turn, will stop about 4/5 from doing a full rotation. Sounds like something is rubbing near the brake pads at a specific spot on the turntable rail underneath causing hang up. I took the turn table off, but all pads seem to be fine.
Stumped.

Honestly I wish I knew. Either it stopped doing it, or it was all in my head to begin with.

So I just took off the turntable again, I removed the 4 brake pads, some definitely show some wear, but I flipped the 1st and 2nd ones with each other, and did the same with the 3rd and 4th ones. So the ones that were initially facing left are now facing right and vice versa, and that seemed to help. I also gave the bottom underneath the rail of the whole table a little wipe with alcohol on a microfiber towel all around full circle, and I can get 2 full rotations now when I spin the table with a little force when it's sitting flat.
I'll take it! ha.

Not exactly same as above issues however similar theme regarding turntable rotation.
During rotation my turntable had slight rubbing at one spot. Did not really affect movement but was an annoying sound.
Cleared issue doing following: Removed turntable, reseated rubber brake pads, cleaned inside of turntable rail with isopropyl alcohol and reassembled.
Rubbing sound all gone, turntable rotates very easily now.
