Calling all Highschool players!

really? I find that hard to believe... to get to 4.0, you have to be taken some serious lessons, you cant hit at parks with your buddies and get to 4.0... I would think some pros would recommend that person a better racquet. but again, most highschool "ratings" are overrated.

why is that hard to believe that they use those racquets? who is to say that inorder to be a 4.0, you have to use a heavier racquet?;) Although i would also recomend them a heavier, player's racquet...they do fine with what they are using now. It all depends on what works for them. Example would be like nadal...he uses a heavy player's stick, but it is extremely light compared to other pro sticks...almost like a tweener if we put it on our non-pro level of weight in racquets...and yet he does fine. :)

I agree that you wont get to a 4.0 by hitting with friends...dont think i said that did i? You can certianly improve your game though, especially if you play with a partner that is slightly better then you are. Most impartant thing to to keep on playing...try finding different players of different levels. Or the best way would be to take lessons.

well... first of all there are hardly any SUPER OS racquets out there, unless you got it at walmarts. which is what I assumed, I used to have a 125 sqinch super os racquet from target or something. and most people NEVER get past 3.5 in their lives, which is why I find it hard to believe that someone talented enough to do so would use a super OS "granny" stick. what is a "granny" stick any ways? I mean, if he uses a nCode N1 or something, it might be possible, but I wouldnt call that a granny stick... I can tell you I've never seen anyone above a 3.0 use a super OS granny stick, let alone 4.0... a lot of kids on our highschool that just hit at practice and play with their friends at the park dont get past 3.0 or even to 3.0...

I cannot think of anyone over 3.5 who does, but I see plenty of ...
Head FXP 10
PK Ki 30
Wilson Triad T3
Wilson W2 Blue Shadow
... type sticks at the club where I play indoor tennis. All these frames *look* so HUGE, I'd call them Granny sticks....

(But, I've never seen any of my HS Boys using these frames....)

POG OS! Arm freindly, has good pop at lower tensions with a multi, you can grow into it and increase tension as you get better. $120.
I considered this frame, but because of the wieght, I have always said no to this racquet. I don't think I'm capable of swinging a racquet over 12.0 oz. especially with the high swingwieght.

To all the people recommending the rds and rdx, if I string them in the low 50's, what is the power comparable to? in other words what racquets would have similar power? would it be similar to the lm radical at mid to high tenson?
thanks

O3 Tour!!!
Its a great racquet and even mishits arnt jarring (i use the MP). Its not heavy and not underpowered. Im a sophmore, 5'9, 140, medium build and i have no problem playing with it for 2 hrs a day. You can always tweek the tention to give it power, and the O3 changes dramatically depending on string tention. Plus, if youre cheap like me and dont cut strings, itll get pretty powerful in no time. The only bad part of it is that sometimes you cant tell mishits because the feel is very muted and its 200 dollars new.

I am currently a sophomore in high school and this is what I use...

Racquet: Dunlop M-Fil 300 (2)
Bag: Dunlop M-Fil Red Pack
Overgrip: Tournagrip
Shoes: Fila Torneos

My playing style is usually baseliner and when I really get the chance I play serve and volley game. I am currently a 3.5 rated player and before when I was a freshman I used to play with an OS racquet, I than switched to the M-Fil 300's after my freshman year and have loved it.. Now I guaranteed myself a spot in Varsity with my great play :).

headfan91 - I really think you are "over-thinking" this. When you can get out and DEMO, it will become less of an "intellectual" exercise ... in futility.

the this is I can only demo 4 racquets with my budget, so I don't want to waste a demo on a racquet that I might not be able to use. Tahst why I am really having a tough decision.

not much of a recommendation, but half of my HS team uses the nSix-ones series and the other half uses one Pure Drive or another.

yea thats the kind i would say are those super os frames people (and i) are talking about. You cant really get anywhere with walmart racquets made of alimunium. I saw one kid before who was at least a 3.5 use a head i.S6 OS

I have to go with Voltron on this one, although he seems a bit biased towards YOnex:D . The RDX500 and RDS001 are GREAT racquets. The LM Rad is a very nice and cheap racquet, but it lacks the spin of the two YOnex's.

Not just biased.... biased TO THE MAX!!!111!!111

I think most highschool tennis players today just love the power from tennis rackets. i mean that was how it was for me when i started off with tennis for the first time in my life as a frosh just last year. All i cared about was power from rackets. but in the middle of the spring tennis season, my coach introduced me to the (Prince o3 midsize) i don't know what happened but i loved the fact that the racket had a lot of control and enough power to punch in winners. But when i look around at my whole entire team. No one had used a racket with a midplus size, except the number one player at the highschool. I was amazed! I thought they liked oversize heads because they think they can serve as fast as roddick. blahhhhh. like i've seen anyone on my team serve like that except for the number one tennis player at my highschool. But it just depends on what stick you feel comfortable using.

currently, i'm in my sophmore year as a 4.0 tennis player using the (n-six one tour 90), an i was playing second singles (ranked second on the highschool team as of last year)

This year hopefully I will get that number one spot. But it'll be tough with the number one tennis player still here because he's got junior and senior year to play highschool tennis.

has anyone had experiance with the pog os? I'm wondering whether it actually plays like a 12 oz stick or lighter, and how easy is it to swing? thanks

last year on Varsity tennis team (i'm a senior)

about a 3.5 level using a Babolat Team PD+. Most people on my team swear upon Head LM rackets and Wilson Hammers. OUr Singles 1 uses a LM Prestige Mid (control player with excellent consistency). My play style is a rather generic baseline game.

i dont know wat my level is but im about to paly varsity sophmore year with 1 year under my belt and i use ps85. i dont think it matters about the racket as long as you settle, if your good that doesnt mean you need a heavy small stick. look at the williams sisters, people usually think in order to be great you need money for great coaching, heavy rackets. havent they proved most of us wrong? i say use watever you feel best with in your hand to give you confidence in the game and watever you hit best with. would it matter wat racket a 3.0 is using if he was about to play a 4.0? i dont think any equipment can help him win unless he gets lucky. as for being above 4.0 by just hitting at a park without professional coaching... i know someone who wins 4.5 tournaments and he learned himself by playing at the park ALOT

Naww.. It was because I stopped playing tennis for more than 1 year because I played football so I had no time for tennis. I than quit football and now am playing tennis almost every week.

Yeah, I know it's sad. The guys on my varsity team aren't that tough, they weren't even that great. There was this foreign exchange student and he was good.

i currently use the flexpoint heat at 57

and have 2 LM heats at 58......

the LM Heats are a steal at 75 on tw right now, and they offer a lot of power for the small weight. definitly worth a try.

btw i live in Canada, so in my city/province, we have a different (and much worse) structure. All we care about here is hockey :( lol

i know what you mean, i live in nova scotia and our school doesnt even have a tennis team they just put all the money into hockey

Well, I am in 8th grade, and am ranked number 10 in the state. I will be playing number one singles for our team, and i use the POG mid...so to each his own I guess.

I play HS tennis and lately ive been facing alot of players using O3 tours, its actually a very controlled racquet power wise, if strung correctly it can offer Davydenko-like control. Spins like a PD as well, its actually become one of the better racquets that Prince has put out in my mind. Not enough for me to use but for HS tennis its great, only downside is muted feel.

From my observations, most highschool players are mostly baseliners with some net game...

Here are the most popular list in my area:

1. Head Flexpoint Radical MP
2. Babalot Pure Drive & Plus
3. Wilson NSixOne 95
4. Wilson NTour 95
3. Yonex RDX500

Heres for the top 5-6 players on my hs varsity team - tryouts havn't started yet, so the ranking's not official

1 (ranked in norcal): Aerogel 200 1hb
2) (me): n6-1 95
3) Mfil-300 - 2hbh, baseliner
4) Head IS-2: 2hbh, power hitter (basically no rallies goes more than 4-5 shots. either he winners, or hits it out)
5) NPS 95: 2hbh, baseliner
then there's a couple of PDs a bit lower down the latter, after that you get into granny stick and walmart racquet territory.

I am a sophmore, about to play my second year of tennis. I started the summer before freshman year, the #2 on varsity is one of my best friends. I am now ranked around 12th or so in the state, so I think I am probably a 4.0-4.5. The top 5 or so players are probably 5.5s or better. I'm kind of in limbo racquet wise. Had a lot of fun with the 001, but at the time didn't have them money. Like my PD, and liked the FXP Rad Tour.

m-fil 300 wiht 10 grams at 3 and 9, 5 grams at top of handle, 10 in the middle, 2 in the butt. It feels like a n6.1 95. very nice.

I also have a hyper hammer 6 which I can use to just continuingly hammer crazy deep topspin shots. I get decent kick on kickers, but it doesn't feel heavy at all, unlike my m-fil. As for flat shots, no comparison; not enough mass in the hammer 6 at all.

the groundies drive people crazy though.
I'll add the team:

1: intel prestige
2. o-port red
3. pure drives

1 doubs: ncode surge, ncode surge x
2 doubs: um I think one was a pure drive, the other was that orange wilson ncode thing. meh I forget
