Can someone please explain this?

This has happened twice before but not as severe as today. I'm a 4.0 player and I was practicing groundstokes for 2 hrs. today with one of the local college players. I was hitting great strokes for my level and decided to serve some at the end of the day. My first serve was good but "every" serve I tried after that I was hitting the throat of the racquet or the frame. My back did feel a little sore from hitting so hard but it didn't seem to effect my groundstrokes. I must have tried 50 balls and with every serve this was happening. I had to quit because the rest of the college team was arriving and it was pure embarrasement because I could not figure out what was wrong. The serve stroke felt fine but there was obviously something serious going on... could it have been just being tired. Please help!

I agree with James Brown, however, another possibility could be that you weren't tossing the ball high enough.

I think that you weren't watching the ball sounds more likely, remember to watch the ball *through contact*

practice time

You know, if I practiced groundies for 2 hrs and then switched to a different stroke (like serves or volleys), it would probably take me a while to get grooved in. Not to mention, dealing with the fatigue of repeating something over and over.

I find I need to optimize my practice time to get the most out of it. For me, after hitting groundies for 45 min. I'm not sure that I'd get that much more out of it, unless it was a lesson.

When I practice, I like to mix things up a bit more, but maybe that's just me.... Curious what others think about this.

Seems pretty obvious to me your body was tired.
That probably caused you to toss it low and your
timing was likely also off/slow.
You are not superman.
