Please go to 1:23 and watch his serve. Is it possible to do this in tennis?

Can it be done in tennis? It can't even be done in table tennis!

In tennis, the first time a ball hits the ground is into the opponent's service box. In table tennis, it's in your own court first. That's a fundamental difference. In that video, see how far the ping pong ball travels after it lands?

If you're gonna attempt that serve in tennis and put that much underspin on the ball, your serve's pretty much going at 40mph.

I sometimes play with this guy who's serve seldom bounces PAST the service line, his landing point just past the net, with under/sidespin, which forces the returner up into the net, from whence the ensuing LOB will be the next answer, usually within 4' of the baseline, so tough putaway.
Great strategy for baseline bashers who want to stay back and hit with heavy topspin. His bounceheight barely reaches the height of the net, so aggressive returns are not a simple task.

I'm not looking for an answer, as I can beat this guy most times with approaches within 2' of the baseline.
But baseliners cannot hit close to the baseline, especially from within the service line of their own court, so they consistently have trouble with this particular guy. Any short ball illicits a CC lob which he controls within 4' from the baseline, so a tough putaway for macho types.
A short serve is effective for guys who want to stay back. Against net players, it's the wrong strategy.
In table tennis, the short serve works because you CANNOT volley in table tennis.
