Chip & Charge strategy tips

I don't see much on this on Youtube for singles players. There's videos of Sampras doing it but it's pretty low resolution. I was hoping for guidelines/suggestions from more experienced players. I'm familiar w/ the basic motion from playing doubles, but in singles, I'm not sure how often to do it, where to place the ball (DTL, BH side, cross court). In the Sampras videos, he used all of those areas but w/out context of the match/point score, I do not know understand his reasoning.

In doubles it's pretty easy to aim cross court, and I pretty much do it every time to close the net. For singles, I don't know if it's better to use it as an element of surprise?

1. Wherever your approach makes the opponent uncomfortable.
2. Mostly DTL, especially if it goes to a western grip opponent's forehand, you chip low, skidded, sidespin and short.
3. Go deep DTL to most player's backhands, then take another extra step forwards, because most players use slice on their backhand lobs, giving you time to move back.
4. Against rangy or fast coverage guys, go more into the body, shortening their running distance, forcing them to hit more accurate shots.
5. Against big slower direction changers, hit wide and often behind.
6. Stop moving forwards when you get uncomfortable.
7. You will lose almost as win, as many points, so don't quit on the first loser.
8. Hit high bouncing approach's to conti grip players.
9. Hit directly up the middle, and short, against hard hitters, taking away their angles.

if you're an athletic-quick player with good hands i'd suggest chipping short (bleeding off the pace) and force them to come in against their will while you also move forward. i like to do that to force them to get up to a short ball and worry about where they can hit the shot while i move forward. beat a very consistent baseliner who played for university of buffalo who would kill me from the baseline. i felt once it got in and around the serviceline , once i kept the ball knee level or below that i had a huge advantage. chipping low and up the middle to piggyback on leeds suggests works well as well. force them to hit over the higher points of the net into less court and control the middle of the court.
