Wow, I wonder how he would have done if he hadn't been disinterested?

Hush child

Who said he was disinterested his whole entire career?

These particular events have been recently, which is what we’re speaking about.

Go play

The rumour is that he is unsure about playing Wimbledon. To train for Olympics.
When has a 7-time Wimbledon champion and defending Finalist ever been unsure about playing Wimbledon?
This is bizarre behaviour.

I really don’t understand it, it’s just a strange as him getting rid of a coach that brought him to so many grand slam wins at such a late age.

It really doesn’t add up, and he said it was due to a disagreement in direction. I have to wonder if his whole staff felt he’s lost it as well.

Novak wants to shake things up and given his listlessness of late this could be good depending on who he chooses.

Coaches might be overrated. Especially at this point for an experienced 24 Slam winner Djoker.

Jimmy Connors said he did not need a coach telling him how to play a tennis match. He said he could figure that out for himself.
As we fondly recall the 1991 US Open run we never saw Connors constantly looking over at his players box.
Players box? Don't even know if Connors had a players box.

If he wanted to, Djoker could easily steer his own ship.

In 2018, nobody would have ever predicted that a player over age 30 would go on such a hot streak and surpass Fedal.
This is the most successful coaching relationship in ATP history.

All of this success in spite of persecution, deportation and banishment from Melbourne and London bureaucrats.

The entire crowd in Louis Armstrong stadium was Connors' playing box by that point. LOL.

I believe Connors' coach, Pancho Segura, stopped travelling with Connors all the time by around 1979, and almost entirely by about 1984-85. Segura was always there if Connors needed him, though. Segura was travelling more with Tracy Austin around 1979.

Personally, I've never understood those players who always look at their player's box. You do all the preparation work beforehand if you've done your jobs properly. You should discuss tactics, discuss how you think things will go, and also if things go better than expected, worse than expected, or absolutely terrible. They should all be discussed.

I'll reiterate what John Wooden, the "Wizard of Westwood" UCLA basketball coach said when asked about how he didn't call many timeouts near the end of close games: he said that if they don't know what to do by now, they don't deserve to win.

I’m just very suspicious, I feel like something very strange is going on here. I’m feeling as if Novak is growing completely disinterested in tennis at this point.
I think he is ready for retirement. He’s lost to Sinner 3/4 of their last matches. After being on top for so long, it can’t feel good to know that you are being aged out by a younger replacement. I’m a Novak fan, but tennis is hard on the body, and it’s only going to become more of an uphill battle for him.

Exactly. There's something called "paralysis through analysis", where too much in-depth thinking or in-depth planning, can actually scare people about doing the wrong thing, leading to inhibition and even dull play. I feel that sometimes with endless in-depth stats. Sometimes it's better to forget all that and just play.

It was certainly a productive partnership but certainly not the best. After all, Djokovic was already at the top of the game with multiple Slams and other big titles to his name. Goran didn't have to do THAT much, did he?

For me, Magnus Norman qualifies for that honour. He inspired not 1 but TWO struggling players to make it big ie. Söderling and Wawrinka. They had no discernible history prior to working with him.
