Comparing Stroke Videos on the Forum Side-by-Side

Many posters post their tennis strokes and ask for comments on how to improve their strokes. The best way to do that is side-by-side videos comparing their strokes to a high level stroke, often an ATP stroke. Video analysis programs exist for this purpose and are the best way to do side-by-side comparisons of two videos. But few readers use such programs and it take some time to create a side-by-side video that compares the poster's stroke to a high level stroke.

This thread shows a work around that the readers or posters can use to compare strokes side-by-side on the forum. This will
1) show exactly what high speed video adds to analyses and the limitations of low frame rate videos, such as 30 fps.
2) show frame-by-frame comparisons of strokes by using two videos on a forum post.

You can do frame-by-frame stroke comparisons on the forum for any two videos using the following procedure:

1) a) To single frame on Vimeo hold down the SHIFT KEY and use the ARROW KEYS.
b) To single frame on Youtube use the "." & "," KEYS.

2) Go to any impact on video #1 and single frame backwards counting frames. For example, go to 4 frames before any impact on video #1.

3) Next, go to any impact on video #2. (the cursor arrow has to be placed on video #2 and clicked to select video #2)

When I place the cursor on the video it starts playing the video. Therefore, you are forced to go back to impact and count frames from impact. Is there a way to 'select' the video without starting 'play'?

Identify each forehand stroke by using the time on the video.

Video #1.

Video #2. WHEN THIS VIMEO VIDEO IS SINGLE FRAMED ON MY COMPUTER. IT IS SKIPPING FRAMES AS CAN SEEN BY LOOKING AT THE MOTION OF THE INCOMING OR STRUCK BALL. I will find a Youtube. UPDATE - Now the Vimeo video is not skipping frames. ????

Use videos of the same recording frame rates or adjust for the different rates. Don't know the fame rates? Compare closest racket positions before impact.

I just realized that you can do frame-by-frame comparisons if presented with two videos on the forum. To single frame on Vimeo hold down the SHIFT KEY and use the ARROW KEYS. To single frame on Youtube use the "." & "," keys. Go to impact and single frame backwards. You can compare videos of different frame rates but you should know the frame rates. Find videos of the same high speed frame rates.

Find a video on right hander Federer. Post both and you will be able to do comparisons using the forum. Kinovea is much, much better........................

You can compare videos of different frame rates but you should know the frame rates. Get videos of the same high speed frame rates.
