continental single handed backhand topspin?

Just wandering what people think about playing topspin with a single handed backhand holding a continetal grip. This is what I use and I seem to be able to generate lots of topspin despite reading that this grip is not suitable for that particular shot.

That is interesting. I don't know why a lot of people think that. I actually will use both the Continental and the Eastern backhand depending on the height of the ball.

If it works for you, great. Unfortunately, most people have an open face when using the continental because that's the natural position it gives so they can't drive the ball as effectively as with a more closed grip.

i tried this once. But when i got better and had harder rallies, i wasn't able to put real shots with the continental. I now use eastern backhand and it works much better. have you tried using your backhand on higher levels?

I won my club championship two years in a row without any coaching. Just had a few coaching lessons recently to improve my fitness. Gustavo was my coaches name, he used to train Gaudio & Canas and a few other Argies. He let Canas go coz he didn´t think he was good enough. Gustavo tried to adjust my backhand to eastern grip but I kept hitting fencers. Moved back to the continental and it was really good, I think I generate topspin with the wrist movement plus no need to change when having to play the slice backhand.

I use also between a continental and eastern backhand, both for my serves and backhands. You can achieve real topspin, that's for sure ;)

For a lot of people continetal is hard because the grip naturally supports more of an open face, imo, but if you find that you can use it and still get a nice topspin shot, that's great.
