"Now consider how things are for Djokovic. He wants that kind of love, and almost never gets it. When he wins Wimbledon, and struts forward, smirking, to make the crowd watch his excruciating grass-eating bit, the applause is … polite. Before then, nearly everyone in the stadium, and nearly everyone watching at home, millions of people around the world, were praying for him to lose. The player who most covets affection is the player from whom the crowd most stubbornly withholds its affection. I’m sorry, but that has to feel miserable. On some level, he’s playing in a nightmare, in match after match. A normal person would probably break down. What’s wrong with me? Why don’t they love me? Yet Djokovic somehow turns this scenario into a recipe for continual victory."

oh yea,, novak is the most unpopular champion in this Era. even murray is more popular. you notice even after this great match in the final,, Nobody is talking about match of the decade or match of the century,,,,, you notice that

Might be true. But being popular and being better or winning are different things.
Novak wins regardless of if the opponent player is more loved or not.

He's a socipath, that's why. Dude has serious issues. I guess it's good he does the hippie thing to avoid other...dangerous behaviors.

Who will be the first in the media to point out that there is inconsistency between the mental resilience of Djokovic and the narrative that he is an insecure narcissist in need for love? I'd argue that you can't come up with the feats that he has without being fundamentally at peace with yourself.

No, he’s unhappy and lonely.
Not Jelena on court today...
Somber face.
I am so sorry for him.

I wouldn't read too much into it. He was probably just exhausted from playing a 5 hour match. It's incredible that him and Fed could be so eloquent after the match.

He was very polite after the match but I bet the reaction of his and his team and relatives was anything but in their privacy. I can just imagine what was said but I can't say it here.

The importance of Pepe here being downplayed, as always.

Shrug... I like Djokovic and while he's not my all time favorite, I enjoy his game. I really wanted him to win today, and at times cheered out loud in my living room. I know others who were also rooting for Djoko.
