My FXP is back in my good books:) tried a few different strings, a few different tensions and have settled at FXP 17 at 62lbs with about 26gm's of lead at the top of the handle plus heat shrink sleeve and overgrip + elastic band "total weight 388gm's and this set up is working extremely well.

Hey dannyjjang - why not use the ALU power??

ljubic, i think i messed up customizing my flexpoint, do i have to counter balance the raquet if i added weights in butt cap?

I have tried it everywhere on the head, in the butt and finally settled on 26gm's right above the hand. nowhere else....works great

I am playing with mine uncustomized.

If i was to customize it, I would definitely add weight to both the hoop and butt to maintain the balance. Perhaps even slightly more weight to the hoop as I tend to hit the ball more on the upper part of the frame.

IMO, Alu Power doesn't have the spin compared with TiMo 18 and it's quite harsh for the arm too.

I'm using TiMo 18 and I love it although it is a little harsh too.

I'm actually getting slighly too much spin from the combo that I am going to switch the cross to something else, perhaps PSGD.

Also, the rubber band fixed the MEGA annoying ping sound of the racket !!!

Cheers.

Also want to add another point.

I found that my flat serve is no where near as powerful as using the FXP Rad OS. The kick serve is decent though.

Anyone have the same experience with the flat serve when comparing with other rackets?

I'm still trying to figure out your statement. How does a rubber band make your racquet stiff?

My 26gm weight is a tear drop shape similar to the john cathern design, made from sheet lead. It is 85mm in length starting with a point at the frame forks and going down the handle under a overgrip.

How does the elastic band make your racquet stiff?

Danny I havent worked out how to post pic's on here yet?????

My lead is NOT tape but sheet lead, it is NOT placed in the handle but on the outside of the handle over the grip and under a overgrip.

Danny,

Ljubicic suggested that he patterned his handle weight following instructions posted by johncauthen. You can do a search of postings by johncauthen for more info. There's a lot of threads on this. Here's such a link with a picture of that type of weighting:

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=81087

In those postings, I think it is implied that the shape of the weight is important because it follows a pattern presented in nature. There's also a suggested optimal racquet weight and balance point. I can't say I remember the exact numbers, but I think it was around 12.25 ounces and around 10 points head light.

Yes I modeled the weight off john cautherns designs however mine is lighter and shorter than his design. his design was to much weight on this racquet and pushed it into the 400gm+ range.

It felt slow and I was getting late on shots with that much weight. Feels great with my current set up and is light years ahead of the standard FXP Tour in performance.

hmm where can i get this "sheet lead"

From your local roofing supplies shop. It is used for trimming around chimneys etc. I picked up a sheet from my local rubbish tip for free. it weighs about 3kg so I will be set for lead for ever.:D

i still think this stick plays best without any customization. How ironic compared to the title of my thread

How big and strong are you???? Is it the extra weight you dont like? I cant imagine still using this stick in stock form.

I added 8 grams in the handle after removing the cap.
Adding an Head overgrip and the original dampener it weights 360 grams.
I really like how it plays, even if I'd like to find a way to reduce the power: sometimes I found it's too powerful...

I added 4 grams totatl to 2 and 10 and it is much more stable feeling. Did not add to much weight to acheive this and my serves and fore hands feel much better.
