Customize/adding weight to increase swing weight

Hi all,

so i'm using a speed touch MP 16x19 and i would like to increase the swing weight. Without the customization tool offered on TW i went on and added 2 strips of 4 inch length of a 1/4 of a inch at 12 o'clock and 2 more strips the same length on the handle to keep the balance the same. I believe that now the racquet has a swing weight of about 20 points; the racquet now should have a SW of 330.
the retail speed mp touch has a SW of 318

Out of curiosity i went to the customization tool and tried to see where it would suggest to add the weight. to reach a swing weight of 330 and it suggested to add it to 6 o'clock.

Did i add the weight in the wrong position or did i use the customization tool incorrectly?
Thanks!

8" of 1/4 lead tape weighs 2g. It is not very likly to increase the SW from 318 to 330. More likely about 325...

I don't like the customization tool, but rather use the worksheet tool.

You used the customs tool incorrectly. Adding weight is always 12 o’clock to add sw . Adding the same weight to the handle is done by splitting the 2 grams lead tape or 2 strips of 4 inches length between the handle end and 6” up the handle. This adds the same balance before while increasing the wrist snap.

Not necessarily. SW increase is greatest at 12, but stability increases more at 3/9, while still increasing the SW...

Hmmm, not quite... For same balance one needs to add the same weigths at the same distances from 12 and butt. With a split between butt and 6", slightly more weight would be required then at 12. However, I personally, like the split method and agree with "snap" (or whatever we want to call the effect) comment.

Where would i be able to find the worksheet tool? Thanks

If then i want to get to a 330 SW i need to keep weight, how much tough? And should i place the same amount of weight in the handle to keep the balance the same?
Ather scenario, if i wanted the 330 SW but to get the racquet a bit more head light what should i do?
Thanks

I guess I'm dumb! I tried a few times with the worksheet and the result does not make sense to me.
So I am asking you guys how much weight should I add to 12 o'clock to have a SW of 330 and to make the racquet from 4 Pts HL to 5 Pts HL?
My racquet's specs:

10.6 unstrung 11.2 strung
SW 318
length 27
twist weight 13.62
balance 4 Pts HL 13 inch

THANKS!!!!!

3 grams at the tip will bump you 10 sw points roughly. 3 grams at the bottom of the handle will roughly restore your original balance point. Another 3 grams at the bottom of the handle will roughly decrease your balance point by 1 point.

Thank you!!! I will try this set up tonight!

I've found great success with tuning my own racquets lately when I've done it by feel instead of going for exact specs. Instead of trying the patience of a hitting partner with a lot of stopping and starting to make adjustments, I've done it on a practice court with a backboard where I can hit both strokes and serves.

After some hitting and adjusting the lead, more hitting and more adjusting, I got to where the racquet seemed to feel familiar for me. In one case, I got the new racquet squared away and feeling good, then brought it home to check what I had arrived at for a new weight and balance. I expected the freshly tuned racquet to be a few tenths of an ounce lighter than my older sluggers, but they were actually a couple tenths heavier along with similar balance as the old ones. But they were pretty much perfect for me and I've kept them this way for at least five years. Just my story.

I'm also a fan of adding lead to my hoops at 3/9 o'clock instead of up at 12. This is probably about my personal preference, but I really love a stable feel through the ball, especially up at the net. Adding lead up at 12 o'clock has the greatest effect on swing weight per gram though.

I get what you mean, but hitting against a backboard does not give you the real feel of a incoming ball hit by x player with x type of stroke and x force and more important how you hit back that ball.
However, I understand that for you it's maybe more about the feeling at net.
To me this customizing is all new. I have always played with stock racquets but heavier than 11.2 oz and trying adding tape here and there to achieve a little more SW or balance drives me crazy. Moreover I don't get the results I'm hoping. I tend to add little by little weight but that takes me longer since I don't have now many good players to hit with. I guess your idea to use the backboard is not bad at all but once you play someone the racquets might need a small further adjustment.
So I added 2 strips of 5 inch across 12 o'clock and 3 grams at the bottom. tonight I'm suppose to hit so I will see the results.
Thank you for the idea!

Your update will be interesting. No matter how we go about this tuning process, any method is probably only an estimate until we get to put that tailored racquet to work in a match.

Very true! :giggle:

I hope I can now handle the racquet with all that weight!
:D
