I have always loved the feel and stability of heavier racquets like the rf97, Vcore 330, old vcore 95D. My ideal specs are around 335g, 7pt HL and max 325sw. The struggle has always been between "wanting to play with these frames" vs "Can i sustain the level for 3 sets".
With that in mind, i decided to start my own little project where the entire focus was to reduce static weight and SW by stripping the paint of these heavier frames and see how close i could get with my spec.
Project 1 - Yonex vcore 95D
- Outcome
Did i find what i was looking for?
Once i wrap those up i will try this with a Wilson RF97, its way to easier to get the grommets for this frame!
With that in mind, i decided to start my own little project where the entire focus was to reduce static weight and SW by stripping the paint of these heavier frames and see how close i could get with my spec.
Project 1 - Yonex vcore 95D
- Outcome
- Static weight (without grip) - down from 310g (stock paint) to 297g (painted)
- Swing weight (strung, leather grip, overgrip) - down 325-327 to 317
- Process- the racquet was stripped of paint till you could see the carbon and graphite (the weave looks so beautiful!!!).
- Repainted it matt black
- Put the grommets on
- Wrapped a stretched TW leather grip 3/4 the way up
- Overgrip all the way
- 4g total from 5th cross down.
- Final Specs strung- New - 334g, 32cm/7pt HL, 322SW
- Old - 352g, 31.5cm, 334SW - (Full leather grip, overgrip, 4g lead)
Did i find what i was looking for?
- During match play @ ALTA AA1 - i won all my matches after the switch, all going 3 sets!
- I am so happy with the results, i am currently doing the same thing for 3 more 95D’s
Once i wrap those up i will try this with a Wilson RF97, its way to easier to get the grommets for this frame!
