Disadvantages of a Leather Grip

I get defined bevels, great feedback and a softer feel than leather with over grip with my setup. My racquets are 4 3/8 stock, but after I grip them up they measure 4 1/4 so you would have to step up in size... to get the same size :???: I wrap the tourna first without overlap then the wilson pro over grip. And you can always customize your butt size by reverse wrapping a thin slice of overgrip on the butt. You'll get crazy feel without tearing up your hand.

with leather you get more spin, less power, more control, less accuracy, more feel, less touch, more forehand, less backhand, more volley, less serve...get it ;-)

Whats the difference between Pro and SuperGrap?:-?

Hi FreshStew,

I just saw your question now.

Truth is when using Wilson Pro or Yonex Super Grap I do not ntice a big difference as I find them to be similar.

As such, being a fan of consistency, I just decided to stay with the same set up on all of my Racquets.

I know that is not a specific answer but I hope it explains why I use what I do.

All My Best,
John

Yeah, as they say on the street,
''Hate da blistas, not da Grip.''

I haven't had a blister in years. My callouses are pretty tame, too, now that I use an overgrip over the leather.

I was thinking about switching to a leather grip for more bevel feel but didn't know what the disadvantages of using a leather grip were.

Also, are leather grips thicker than other grips? And how is the feel with a Wilson Pro Overgrip or a TournaGrip?

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED ;)

I played with an overgrip on top of a synthetic grip and I've played with an overgrip on top of a leather grip and the overgrip just feels like its wrapped over a wedge of wood which makes it feel firmer.
IMO: a leather grip is simply firmer than a synthetic grip

I know but does that slow down your swingspeed?

wouldnt adding a leather grip put more weight to the handle making it feel more healight so almost making you swing slightly faster?

But if u r used to a less HL balance, adding a leather grip might alter the balance a little too much. But if its really bad, juz add some lead tape to the head area.

So once I get used to it my swing will feel the same if not faster?

My leather grips have outlasted some of my racquets. If/when I sell/give away my old sticks, I put my new frames' synthetic grips on them and take the old leather to the new frames.

BTW, to answer that question in better detail:
I play 3 to 6 times a week and I sweat a lot.
My leather grips last about three years. I wear wristbands. I replace my overgrips every week or two and I rotate four sticks.

Over-grip on leather grip

What's the point of that?

Trying asking the huge number of ATP Pros that are playing with this combination.....if you look at ATP Masters tournaments, you'll see that the majority of players are using a white (Wilson) overgrip over what is almost certainly a leather grip.....

Yes 10-15 years ago pros were using synthetic but in the last few years the trend has been to use leather with the Wilson overgrip which is way better btw than the Tournagrip.

Reason for this is that the leather grip provides a much closer feel to the contours of the handle, something that synthetic cannot match - so that what you call the disadvantage of leather - its hardness - is actually its strength. And the hardness and sweat-absorption are taken care of by the overgrip, which gives both great feel for the contours as well as sweat-absorption and softness....but a cheap tacky overgrip will not do the trick...the Wilson is the best one and it works beautifully with leather.

Because the overgrip increases the size, some people use racquets that are one size smaller..
