Disney Star Wars Box Office Profits fail to cover cost of buying Lucasfilm.

Box office profits generated by Disney's Star Wars movies have fallen $2.8 billion short of covering the media giant's purchase of the sci-fi saga’s creator, Lucasfilm, according to analysis of recently-filed financial statements.
Disney bought Lucasfilm for $4 billion in 2012 and soon gave the green light to a new trilogy of Star Wars movies which teamed up rising stars Daisy Ridley and John Boyega with Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and the late Carrie Fisher who headlined the original movies more than 30 years earlier.....
Doesn't include profits from merchandising but whenever I go to stores, the SW merchandise is sitting there collecting dust.
The losses don't include the disastrous Star Wars: Galactic Star Cruiser hotel which closed after just around a year and an estimated $300 million in losses.

Seems a lot of losses.

Have never gotten around to watching Star Wars. Simply not my cup of tea.

It was pretty hard to mess up Star Wars, but they managed to find a way with pushing their agenda instead of trying to make a movie that told a good story and that people would actually care about and want to watch. Bet that they had a lot of gains at the cocktail parties telling people what they were doing with the movie. Maybe that helped overcome the financial losses and losses of Star Wars fans like me

OK. But the plot is too American.
And most of the actors I remember, too.
The original Obi-wan was an English actor. Some of the plot was inspired by samurai movies and it follows a traditional hero's journey with great special effects and timeless lessons. At least the original movies were. The new ones are inspired by appeasing angry whining activist
Orange man told you to hate Disney.

No one told me to hate Disney. Watching what they've done to the once great company and characters has made me hate Disney in its current form. If they fix things I'd be interested in it again. I'm not a seal that mindlessly claps and goes along with whatever is popular or being promoted by the time.

The Disney CEO is telling employees they need to stop the activism and try to actually create likeable characters and decent stories again. Do you think the orange man told him to say that? It's common sense from box office receipts and just looking at the garbage they're putting out now.

Walt Disney was a genius and they had to work exceptionally hard to destroy the good will he and those that followed him built up over decades

That has to be it. Couldn't be that Kathleen Kennedy (put a chick in it and make her lame and gay) is incompetent.

The weird thing is that Disney had the IP to a bunch of Star Wars novels which had been very successful and could have been made into movies.

I like streaming 1-6 during my Sunday shifts to help pass the time. Gonna have a May the 4th party with themed drinks.
Saw 7 and 8 with my cousin and I about fell asleep. Felt forced and boring and didn’t bother with the last one.
Tried watching Mandalorian but I just could not get into it.

Overall, I think Disney is playing the forever game with Star Wars and make their money on IP. I’m sure despite the theatrical flops they make a profit.

From the above article:
A new report from the Securities & Exchange Commission reveals Disney has made almost $12 billion from Star Wars alone - 2.9x the cost of the acquisition. It must be noted this isn't pure profit, of course; individual projects had their own production, marketing, and distribution costs. Still, it gives an idea of just how successful Star Wars has really been.

And the report isn't from the SEC. That is the report Disney has filed to the SEC.

Just recently I saw an article saying that Kathleen Kennedy isn't the woke warrior that people are accusing her of being.

But, if Star Wars was succeeding as much as Disney was hoping, we would see articles saying: "Kathleen Kennedy is a woke warrior, and that's a good thing."
Anyways, the studios where Star Wars movies are filmed are in the UK to catch tax breaks. And they are full of British actors and actresses.

I saw the original trilogy in the theater and most of the fans don't actually hate what Star Wars has become, it's much worse: they are indifferent to it.

Star war is money spinner, so unless Disney go bankrupt that will keep on producing money.

Only thing most can say that Star war content should have produced enough money till now.

It is all about on good movie in future , unless I am missing some information but Disney brought Star war franchise , they are not paying license fees per year , so they will make profit, huge profit

I don't really understand what made them think $4billion was a reasonable price to pay.
Star Wars merchandise was printing money back then. That's how Lucas made his fortune: he negotiated for those sweet merchandising rights instead of a pay increase. Even after the pretty divisive prequel trilogy, you could've sold a toilet brush with Vader's helmet on it. That Disney managed to mismanage this goldmine into not even making the cash back is a feat in and of itself. In contrast and even after the really underwhelming fourth phase, they also had bought Marvel for 4 billions, and it made them back over three times as much just in box office revenue.

There's also that Indy 5 movie that... well, shouldn't be spoken about really.

That was actually a perfect post and I didn't attack you.
You didn't respond to a single point I made. All you said was "you must be reacting because someone else said to say it" and when I put more detail "triggered".

If I say that Djokovic, Federer and Nadal are the GOATs of this generation and you disagree do you think that "orange man must have told you to think that" and if I give details about the majors and records they've held that "triggered" would be a perfect post?

You're on a witch hunt against me. I'm innocent and this is political persecution.
