Djokovic has taken steps to try and get back in fighting form

He rehired his old fitness trainer(Gebhard Gritsch) because Vadja encouraged Nole to see a new fitness trainer because he wasn't looking too hot at Marbella.

" According to the Serbian website Novosti, Vajda encouraged Nole to hear a fitness trainer again after seeing him not in a good shape in the first days of practice sessions together in Marbella. There wasn't much time to think about who chooses, Gritsch was the most immediate option and he answered Djokovic's call straightaway. "

Now, can Gritsch fight through the Amor Y Paz brigade that consists of his brother, wife, and Pepe?

Probably a step in the right direction. It makes his decision to play Barcelona seem strange. If both Djokovic and Vaida are aware Djokovic is not fit enough, why seek a wild card for a tournament that's not on your schedule and is going to interfere with time that could be used to get properly fit...

They weighed two different things.

Playtime and fitness. Guess play time was more important this time around

Well he didn't get much of that did he! Realistically he'll get plenty of match play simply by showing up to what's on his schedule. Madrid/Rome/Roland Garros/Queens or Halle/Wimbledon/Washington/Canada/Cincinnati/USO is hardly a schedule that would leave him starved of tennis in the next 4 months. It just seemed he had a 2 week clear gap after Monte Carlo that could have been put to a specific purpose.

Should skip Madrid and only play Rome and RG

They both can go hand in hand.....if you are willing to take losses.

They can...but if you're doing (say) 4 hours of physical training per day you're not going to be right for your matches. So why play meaningless matches under those circumstances...
