Do weeks as no. 1 REALLY matter?

That's why rankings are additional indicator of greatness. Exactly. People can slack off and only show up for slams.

Fed is always playing, going deep and he should be rewarded for that.
Slams are most important. Those are the only ones as a fan, hurt if my favorite player loses. The rest of the year, I would want him using the masters or even mickey mouses to fine tune their play or get the practice in so they can be in form for the slams.

Rankings are nice I guess.

I don't see why there is even a debate. Fed has most majors AND weeks nr.1.
He leads in both categories.

People make it seem like Fed is some slamless equivalent of Wozniacki.

Why the f*** is everthing about Fed to you? Nowhere did I mention Fed at all, are you for real? Your insecure, defensive attitude is pathetic.

Read the OP, he compared Hewitt with Edberg. Now stop being such a defensive princess!

Yeah, you actually believe he meant Hewitt and Edberg? Don't be naive.

This is really about trying to diminish Fed's weeks nr.1.

I think both is important. Slams are nr.1, yes, but weeks nr.1 is additional indicator of greatness.

Slams measure domination, rankings measure consistency. Both is important for greatness in my view. Also longevity is important too.

In the grand scheme of things, I'd much rather my favorite player win a slam or 2 than hold #1 all year long.

If Rafa wants to be #2 for the rest of his career, I won't mind as long as he is not hanging around till 33 losing in slam Finals trying to get #18. He should have 18 with time to spare by then. Vamos! :D

Exactly. It's pathetic trying to hang around for so long and not winning any slam even for a so called false GOAT. Sampras knew when he should retire, while Federer is still completely clueless and quickly becoming a senior journeyman on the tour.

That's over 19 years ranked #1

If you were ranked #1 for that long and still won less than 6 majors you'd look like a complete choker and dead set idiot.

Well what can I say, sh*t field with a sh*t leader

You'd be considered a choker who was unable to get the job done when it mattered most.

Because common sense says so.

Btw, where did I say it was "shabby" to not win a major and be #1? Where did I ever say you're better off losing early? If you can't read, you shouldn't enter a discussion.

In all above posts , you indicated a guy who doesn't win a major is sh*t , choker, idiot .

And I am asking you why do you term a Rios or Berdych an idiot and sh*t ?

thank you. in fact, i even made it clear the thread was about boris becker vis a vis stefan edberg. but to these people, everything and anything must be about federer.

No it's you showing how much of an insecure, defensive princess you are. You were discussing with me, not him, and I never mentioned Fed, you did because you're so precious for your hero

Fed is still on top. He is still making GS finals and winning tournaments.

Sampras was done. You can't compare those two.

And even if Fed is out of top 100 and still playing, so what? Why does it bother you so much? Fed can do whatever he wants.

Federer is the #3 Tennis player in the world. Sampras is a stay-at-home husband. Which do you think is better?

Fed is amazing. Still contender for majors and titles at old age. And in this tough era. It's crazy to suggest a guy who is nr.3 should retire.

If a player with just 1/3 the total GS titles as another player, can spend more weeks as no.1 than him, how much do weeks as no. 1 really matter?!
If a player like Djokovic with 1/2 the total Slams as Sampras can win 8 more Masters titles than him, how much do Masters really matter?

hewitt has 2 GS, while edberg has 6. yet hewitt has spent 8 more weeks as no. 1 than edberg.

doesn't this show something?
Yes, what it shows is that they're different achievements. Everybody agrees Slams are the most important metric. I personally think weeks at #1 (even though my favorite player, Federer, has more weeks at #1 than anyone else) is as meaningless as head-to-head. YE#1 matters.

No I indicated that if a guy is #1 for 20 years but still can't get the job done in majors is a choker and an idiot.

You Fed fan girls cry when he misses an opportunity to win a major, imagine if he'd never won any. Imagine if he lost every major final, he'd still have been #1 from 04-07 and have over 250 weeks there, but without majors you would pull your hair out. Some of you call Fed a choker now, even after so many major titles.

Not crazy at all. Sampras fans are afraid of Federer winning more. So they want him to retire.

I feel for them though. Fed just won't go away. They are expecting Fed to fade after AO 09.

Fed will outlive them all. I bet Cilic will retire before Fed :).

Why does it have to be about Sampras? The guy is a retired player from the past era! If anyone is afraid of Federer winning more slams, it is probably either Nadal or Djokovic. Think boy, think!

You have more posts despite joining after me. Your world revolves around Federer. Therefore, I disagree with your not so well thought out comeback...

But your posts are 10 times longer than mine. Mine are short.

No my world doesn't revolve around Federer. I also watch movies.

Besides, you can call me whatever you want. I don't even deny it. You are way too sensitive. I'm fine with being called Fed worshiper or whatever. Or having no life.

The truth doesn't hurt me lol. Why do you think that the truth bothers me?

It's not about Sampras. Sampras isn't afraid, he was talking about Sampras fans being afraid.

I bet Sampras is happy and he doesn't even care.

My life also revolves around the GOAT...by that I mean, making myself the GOAT in absoutely everything I set out to do. ;) Trust me, I have one killer shoulder width to waist ratio, and a very good back double bicep pose (competitive bodybuilding). :)

You know it, and I know it. You are afraid. And so is 90's Clay. That's exactly why you're calling for the world #3 to retire, despite making a Slam final this year and winning a Masters title.

If you are really pro, this complements being a tennis fan really well. I hear pros have to rest a lot to recover, so a lot of spare time for tennis.

Of course if you were even serious about you being competitive body builder.

I am amateur bodybuilder. So while I compete, the prize I get is possible medal if I rank in the top three. I am also drug free, and have no intentions to turn pro due to the fact that I will need to start taking anabolic cocktails such as Tren, Dinabol, Deca, Insulin, Testosterone, and even be advised to inject synthol, which just makes me shudder when I think about it. Train hard, but stay drug free. ;)

I compete for three months normally around Californina and Nevada, with the hopes of culiminating at the Olympia expo in Las Vegas convention centre every year. This year not competing due to other commitments, but looking forward to getting back on stage much earlier next year, since I am much more rested.

Great. Very interesting too. I guess people will have to start watching what we say to you here. Actually it's quite impressive you having so much success drug free.

What other commitments do you have? You mean tennis and movies? You can be honest :).

I like that attitude! Respect!

Although I'm not a body builder, I still train during the week to keep in shape and keep my fitness levels up.

Also, one more thing I'd like to mention is, those idiots pump themselves full of that crap and sure their body looks unnaturally insane on the outside, but on the inside it is being destroyed. Not worth it!

I got into bodybuilding from my teens. I was a kid who was massively influenced by Sly/Arnie movies of the 80s, plus I was a huge wrestling fan, and back in the day, you had guys like Ultimate Warrior, Rick Rude and many other awesome physiques. I also watched a few of Bruce Lee's incredible workouts, with his knuckle and one finger push ups and the legendary Dragon Flags that Sly makes famous in Rocky IV. Yeah, steroids were running rampant back in those days, but there was just this revolution in larger than life guys. The Rockys, The Terminators, The Rambos, The Conans. Even cartoons had guys that looked like they could kick some ***, like He-Man.

I started really focusing on building my body, and among other things I got certified as a personal trainer. While I was out in Florida, I met some guys that ran shows in NYC, they were down to do photo shoots for a gym in Fort Lauderdale. They invited me to attend the shoot, and from there I got the bug to try to compete.

Today I have been competing successfully for six years, each year improving on my shape and size. I have tried many different things over the years, but I still love the challenge of entering the gym and just unleashing. Only place where I truly feel free. :)

Oh - I am quite the expert on Human anatomy, physiology and nutrition. I wanted every possible advantage that I could get. And they say, the most important thing to train to get a great body is your brain.

You aren't making any sense :).

Does he ever?

Look at the following:

Grand Slam titles come first, then weeks at No.1 follows. I'd rank year-end No.1 as the more important achievement than weeks st No.1 though.

Interesting. You didn't feel that way when Sampras held both the records. Now that Federer broke the record for weeks at #1, you think the YE#1 record is more important. LOL!

Number of year end number 1 can be deceptive. A person can have a total of 4 weeks at number 1 spot, and ended up with 4 year-end number 1. Overall, weeks are better indication of dominance.

Thanks buddy! And respect back to you. We all have different goals, but it is important for everyone to take care of their health. Your body is built for life, and takes you every moment that you are on this planet, so it is our responsibility to take care of it. We only have one.

Regarding the illegal stuff...Man, I could tell you some stories. I have seen guys injecting themselves with horse steroids. Yep, the ones they give to breed Stallions into themselves, and then go pump up.

Here is a tell tale sign of people taking anabolics, that don't look outrageously cartoony. They will always have overly developed traps, deltoids, and constantly pumped uppper pectoral region. This is because there is a high concentration of androgen receptors here. I normally always check this area when I consult with my clients, to know about past steroid use.

I guess all TW members aren't couch potatoes. Actually I love Jack La Lanne. He practically invented fitness. What a legend.

I'm happy you are doing so well. So, how do you deal with not being able to eat your favorite foods?

Yes, Jack will be missed.

Thanks again. :) I have never gotten first place. But I have gotten second and third a few times in some big shows. So still something to aim for! Regarding my favorite foods. Most of my favorite foods are starch based, such as pasta, pizza and foods that similiar. Normally I have about 16 week prep, the exercise intensity increases and I continue to lift a lot of weight, especially on the walking barbell lunges, the barbell back and front squats, the dead lifts, bent over barbell rows and incline and military dumbell presses. I cut my rest periods to about 40 seconds between lifts, to help get large amounts of growth hormone so I can burn fat and preserve muscle while I diet. And I add in more cardio.

When I am not prepping like now, I normally use carb cycling, where I use my favorite foods on high carb days. What I do is deplete my muscle glycogen by doing five straight days of training, dropping my carbs off on the last two. Then eat my favorite foods to replenish, increase my metbolism, boost my leptin and force the insulin released to push the nutrients into my muscles that would absorb everything like a sponge. I end up very full and vascular, and ready for some heavy lifting again, which will normally be a killer leg workout. :)
