both players lost in the SF at adelaide but JJ lost a RR match while JMDP won his 2 RR matches.
he consequently has a greater prize money (logical)... but both earned the same number of ATP points !
i know it concerns a small amount of points... but i don't find this logical.

i found that :

from : http://www.atptennis.com/en/players/ATP_Rulebook2007.pdf

but that's not very clear :
  • in this table, it doesn't appear that you win more points if you win the tournament being undefeated (it would be logical, like at the masters)
or maybe you add the points earned in the RR stage to your 35 points for the final win ?... but i don't think it works like this, that wouldn't be coherent with the points earned in 2006.
the RR column probably gives the points you get if you win only one RR match, i think. but the least we can say is that they could have been more explicit ! :p
  • they could have added a line for the 24 draw case !
ummm... your opinion, you tennis fans ? ;)

The RR in non-DC, non-Master's Cup, tournament play is a contrivance, and an attempt to fix one part of tennis that was never broken.

The whole point of RR for qualifying for later elimination rounds was to lessen the effect of a single early loss. They've simply carried that over to the points.

The ATP events award points differently for different tier events. One of the many potential problems with the RR format is that these tourneys run heads up against other events attracting other players. If you start breaking down points for RR W/L records, do you then have to discount the points awarded to QF-ists at that event to add up to the 25 or do you award more points to an undefeated RR who advances to the QF. The problem is if a QF at a RR event gets more points than a QF at a single elimination event the single elimination event will attract less of the top guys and visa versa.

The RR was a bad idea from the get go and should be shelved now before it starts effecting bigger events.
