Yes, Safin won 2 slams beating the 2 GOAT's without really caring about his career. Federer wouldn't be on 16 slams now if Safin showed up more regularly.
Hewitt won 2 slams and Maxed out his limited style without the weapons of someone say Safin.
Both of them deserve and will be in HOF!

Hewitt easily. Safin, maybe. I rate Safin's career much lower than guys like Hewitt, Roddick etc. Probably even Carlos Moya. I rate endurance, and staying up there very high. However, most of Safin's collapse wasn't mental, it was injuries. Therefore, I think he should be hall of fame, if Chang's there, why not Safin?

both are locks. both reached number 1, both won multiple slams and masters. that is the point of the hall of fame, not to weed out a handful of men from every generation but to showcase all the talents that played the game. if you think multiple major winning world number ones don't belong in the hall of fame then you've got quite the standards

Yeah.... no way should Hewitt not be there. Safin has got a shot.
Yeah I definitely think that they should be in. I was just thinking if they do have some exact requirements in the HOF, like "a player must win a certain number of Masters series and Grand Slam titles" or something like that. Like they had a book which said basically that "win 25 titles and you're in, win 24 and you have no chance". Because someone told me something like this in the past.. Well, hopefully it isn't true. Seems like it isn't

I think it is time they start to tighten the standards again. The game is getting to the point it is building enough history and with all 4 slams now active enough new true champions they shouldnt be desperate to just let anyone in. Yannick Noah, Jana Novotna, and even Gabriela Sabatini being inducted was a new low for the Hall of Fame. If people keep using the worst inductees as barometers than the minimum standard for accpetance will just keep creeping gradually lower. What will be next, in 2018 Patty Schnyder and Fernando Verdasco inducted into the Hall of Fame (and no neither will ever win a slam by then barring a miracle).
It is time they toughen the standards again and the equivalent of those 3 shouldnt make it in the future. With tougher standards it is very possible none of Safin, Hewitt, or Roddick make it, although they still might eke in as each is more worthy than Noah and Novotna by far.

They are both excellent players but I have a much tougher standard for what defines being a legend. I definitely think "legends" of tennis should have more than 2 slams, atleast a brief period of dominance stronger than Hewitt's in late 2001-early 2003, and more than just 5-6 years staying in the top 10 (and even in that Safin and Hewitt both dropped out at points). Atleast I dont mind either making the Hall as much as Noah and Novotna who were a joke, but I still want to see the standards for the Hall of Fame get much tougher again. It seems they just keep creeping in the other direction to the point it is getting almost scary what is somehow getting through.
Kafelnikov and Krajicek havent been inducted yet have they? I sure hope not, and I sure hope neither does.

IMO Kafelnikov is the weakest 2 slam winner in history, discounting some of the flukes who won the then "non slam" Australian Open twice say 1982 or earlier. I dont even consider im a 2 slam calibre player despite that by some miracle he has 2. Krajicek I actually think is a silghtly better player than Kafelnikov. I would put either in the Hall of Fame though and I hope neither ever gets in.

Does it matter? It's just a stupid museum that I doubt most people have even been to. They could pick a random tramp off the street and induct them and it wouldn't really affect anyone.
Really, of all the issues in tennis, this is one I don't see how any one can get passionate about.
