Does a replacement grip really need glue on the back?!

I often re-wrap my replacement grips due to that I wrap around the butt-cap twice (personal habit for comfort on the palm of the hand) and because it bulks up -- it causes the grip to come loose faster.

However I've noticed that often the re-wrapping doesn't work, because once the glue on the back of the grip gets heated-up (from the sun) it becomes very sticky. Re-wrapping the grip leaves some of the sticky glue onto the texture of the grip... which becomes impossible to use.... And stained by glue on the texture, the good grip needs to be thrown-away.

I think replacement grips don't really need glue on the back to hold them to the racket: What do you think? If you just tie it tight & sturdy, it will stay... and you wouldn't have to deal with sticky glue that makes a good grip unusable.

I'd prefer if they made the replacement grips w/o glue!

I've never come across a replacement grip having glue before. Most of the time there's an adhesive like double-sided tape on the back of the replacement grip. I've never had this adhesive get heated-up from the sun either...but I do live in warm and sunny Michigan

Never used glue on my replacement grip. Are you sure you ar using a replacement grip and not an overgrip.

FWIW - I usualy use Gamma Hi-Tech when I replace my grip. Never had an issue with slipage in hot conditions.

You're right, I meant adhesive. I wasn't clear at the beginning. Well, I live in Florida... and the adhesive on the Pacific replacement grips becomes sticky and liquidy after exposure to high temperatures.

I figure as long as it is not twisting off the racket, it is good to go. But for it to stay on properly I am guessing there needs to be some sort of tackyness.

Not all of them do. Some have double-sided tape that comes with them and some are obviously made with adhesive on them directly. I supposet the grips can shift slightly after a while of use.

Just get the ones that have no adhesive on the back or the ones that come with the tape.
