Donnay XSeries Customizable Frames

Anyone see the new Donnay XSeries frames? I'm a little disappointed by the price, but the frames look great. I'm just about drooling over the black 94. Looks like a sweet frame. The 15mm beam is awesome. 18x20 pattern, and specs that remind me of my current frame which I really like, the PSL.

They have a whole line that has specs tailored to just about every player type. If these frames are as good as they seem, I think they will do well if Donnay can get them marketed well. The price looks like it will hurt the success though.

Yeah, there's been a lot of discussion regarding the Donnays X-series on these forums...
As I said in another thread - if they sold them not only through their own site, but also through sites like TW where you get the raqs of most companies all together, they would sell a hell lot more. Because right now, if anyone likes these sticks, he has to know exactly what he wants and where to look for it. But most ppl don't, they just go to a site like TW and look what the companies offer them. The same happens with vantages - they are just really unknown and unless you know that you want a Donnay or a Vantage, you'll never buy them.
And yeah, the price of these Donnays is excessive!!

+1 on drooling over that 94 frame. Thin beam, box frame, 11.8 strung weight, choice of open or closed pattern, superslick all-black paintjob? I'm in love. Especially because I can't have her. No demo, no buy.

The price seems excessive but when you realize each frame comes with a dampener, a trained german sheperd that leads you to uncrowded surf breaks and a strand of bjorn borgs hair you cannot go wrong.
So far the inside word on these frames is that they suck/are awesome simultaneously. Similar to youtek.

That post made my night. Well done.

I managed to find another thread on these. Looks like there is potential, but maybe not enough to justify the price. It's a shame these aren't more available for demo. I personally don't care about the extras. I think if I could just get the frame for a reasonable price I'd be pretty happy. If I needed some of the extras later I could always buy them at the overpriced rate they sell on the website.

At the very least, I hope these get enough traction to encourage other manufacturers to build some thinner beam frames.

I was never interested in Donnay racquets in the past except along time ago when Borg used them and those were the old school frames. So for them to come back at a high price it doesn't matter to me.

black 99 over black 94

94 is a great mid, but prefer the 99 -- with thin beam (15mm), it hits like an os, but with the stability of a mid. Main thing is the manueverability cuz of thinness -- think how air flows over a Porsche in a windtunnel, versus an SUV. Lovin' it.

Interesting, Slice. I've always preferred frames from the (Blade Tour) 93-96 (Prestige and Radical MPs) range, so I feel like I'd initially be more intrigued by the 94. Still get enough control out of the 99-inch head? Have to imagine it's more powerful. And can you compare how the 94 and 99 play to any current frames?

Jim Courier plays with one of those right now. His is a 99 16/19 and 15mm beam. It says on it 310gr start weight. It feels good in the hand as well. ;)

This would be definitely a raquet to buy for me, if only the price would be more moderate! Something like 300 bucks is too damn much!!

94 vs. 99

JGads...Yeah, a little more power in the 99 because of the larger head size, but not that much to sacrifice control. You still need a full swing to get maximum pop from either, but it doesn't have to be grooved. I prefer the 99 because I need the extra real estate on the face -- I'm a 4.0 who has a tendency to occasionally "frame" my shots. Better players would probably prefer the 94. I loaned my 99 to a 3.0 wild thang the other day and it worked wonders for him keeping the ball in the court and not blowing his shots beyond the baseline.

A lot of posts on it, I have a x-blue 94 weighted to 350g unstrung and 310mm balance, its a good hit but not as stable as I would've liked and doesn't absorbs the big shots as I would've liked

Wickmayers racquet

I notice that one of the features of the x-series racquets is it's thin beam size of 15mm. Currently Donnay is having Yannina Wickmayer playing with their racquets. It's the 100th anniversary racket. This racquet however has a thicker beam size. Someone from their Live Chat told me, when I asked what the specs were of Wickmayers racquet compared to the others.

Does anyone know why she would use a thicker beamsize?

Wickmayer racquet

She's Belgian and that's where Donnay has its roots. But it's definitely not one of the new Donnays, the beam looks almost widebody. Could be just a new paintjob of her old racquet maybe, like Fed's souped-up "BLX" paint on his old Pro Staff?

Wickmayers racquet

Well, Donnay sells this racquet in it's 100th anniv. packet, so I don't think it's her old babolat with a paintjob...

It's just curious, because Donnay is all hyping the xenecore so they can make thin beams, but they let Wickmayer play with a thick beam. It's weird...

I am currently demo-ing the X Red 99. Nice racket, however not worth the steep price point. For $20 you can demo it for 30 days. If you don't return it within 30 days, they hit your credit card for $169. Best part is the one I got was brand spanking new with the plastic on the handle and everything. If I really liked it, I could keep it for $169, well below the $279 asking price...

Safinator, I think I just got lucky because I use a 4 5/8 grip. Probably not too many people using that size so maybe that is why I got a brand new one..

Because it is a paintjob of her previous racquet, and not a Donnay.

Its funny how most pro's use different racquets than the ones they claim to play with....im actually tempted to order the 300th anniversary racquet just to check it's specs.

She might be using a thicher beam size because the racquet is light. I've noticed that with a thin beam, its better to have a heavier racquet.

Also, a promoter for Donnay gave me a Prorate ID at a local tournament to use on the Donnay website which would give me 20% off on anything on the site....I know these racquets are pricey, but using the ID makes them much more affordable.

Here's the ID if anyone wants to use it...just punch it in before checkout on the donnay website (donnayusa.com)
