Eaton-Tursunov match...a bit one-sided?

Poor Dmitry Tursunov. Packed house to watch journeyman Eaton, and on Tursunov's very first service he bombs one down the T that Eaton put into the net.

Not one soul cheered. At all. There was no crowd reaction beyond complete silence.

I remember a lot of Tim Henman's matches where the crowd was pretty one-sided, but even then I never heard a completely silent crowd after his opponent won a point. Anybody ever seen anything like that where a huge crowd didn't react at all?

By the way, with that goatee he's sporting, Tursunov looks like he's going to get in his semi after the match and make an overnight delivery.

Firstly Eaton is hardly what you'd call a journeyman! A young guy ranked 600 odd in the world, playing on no.1 court at his home grandslam, which he played about 6-8 games just to qualify for the main draw.

Secondly the crowd was not silent when Tursunov won any point! What game were you watching?? They just went nuts every time Eaton won a point. This match caused quite a buzz over here because hardly anyone had heard of Eaton before 4 days ago, so obviously the crowd was going to be one sided.

I thought Tursunov handled the game brilliantly though, blocked out the cowd and just played steady tennis. Eaton won a few admirers too.

i was at the match - people were applauding tursunov obviously as well as a few dissapointed groans. Eaton was going to get much more support - he's BRITISH!!! the crowd acknowleged tursunov's play though..

The game I was watching was the very first one, on the very first serve from Tursunov. I mentioned that in my post.

I only meant in the context of the situation with a very British crowd and what the commentators were calling an electric atmosphere. Maybe it was just my television, but I didn't hear any reaction after Tursunov's first serve point. I heard them clap for Tursunov perfectly fine after that, I just thought it was kind of funny given the "electricity in the air."

And really Chris1992? They were cheering Eaton because he was British? I had no idea. I always wondered why the audience in a Davis Cup match cheered louder for the home team.

And finally, I don't know what else I'd call Eaton other than a journeyman.

The guys 20! how would you consider him a journeyman? That implies he has been around a number of years but never really broken through into the top tier. All he's played is challengers/futures until wimby.

Confused:confused:
