Emma Is The Most Marketable Player In History.

No question. Btw did sharapova tweet anythig nice about her or was she silent?

Don't use Twitter and don't follow Sharapova. These WTA players are hypercompetitive and many are sore losers. Notice how the 18 year old winner graciously acknowledges the umpire. But the older much more experienced player, who should be setting the example, does not even acknowledge the well-respected chair umpire Alison Hughes. Just puts her head down and walks off the court.

Not a good look.

About to make BANK.

Could see the top 2 female bank getters outdo the males over the next 7-8 years or so, especially when Fred is officially off the list as an active player. Djokovic also makes real good BANK.

Osaka and Raducanu have the likes of Medvedev, Zverev and Tsitsipas beat. Wowee.

The other simple point is that the women's market for clothing and beauty products is enormous, so that gives those two are head start.

The overwhelming crowd favourites in Melbourne will be Djoker, Emma and Lehyla.
Will be attending to witness Djoker win historic #21. Hopefully Australia has opened its borders by then.

I believe the USO conditions helped Emma and Leylah a little bit. What are the chances we see quite nippy conditions at the AO also? If so, I could see a rematch, but given their rankings it could be much earlier than the final!

Who has more fans ?
That means more people follow Maria
So she is a greater icon for sure.

People who "follow" Sharapova on social media are not necessarily her "fans".
90 % of those followers couldn't even list Shara's five slam titles. They just like pics of scantily-clad you women. And Shara provided people with that.

She has a very boring and shapeless body, but she smiles a lot and people seem to think smiling is good.

Melbourne is always cool in summer, but when the heat waves come then it is scorching hot. And the heat waves come in January and February, so at the wrong time for tennis.

Even so the chances of a heat wave affecting the whole tournament is remote.

Melbourne is always scorching hot. Even more so now with global warming.

She has a nice and sexy body.
And people don't just think smiling is good. Smiling is actually good.

Raducanu has real star power.
Sharapova always was an artificial star. A marketing product. Soulless. Certain people fall for that, yes.

Whereas Hingis had the most unique looks and personality in the history of tennis.

..

An short inside look into the "unique personality" of Hingis:

"She's here with her girlfriend. She's half a man." (Hingis on Mauresmo, 1998)
"Steffi has had some results in the past, but it's a faster, more athletic game now ... She is old now. Her time has passed." (Hingis on Graf, 1998)
„She is old and slow.“ (Hingis on Novotna, 1999, after ending their doubles partnership)
„She is just a runner who doesn’t give up.“ (Hingis on Graf, 1999, after the FO final)

Because she is primarily British and Britain and China don't get along.

She speaks to her grandparents, who are still living in China, in Mandarin.
Emma transcends borders. Much like the Stones.
Historical Note: Five innocuous Stones songs are still banned by the CCP.

What about Osaka? She's from Japan, lives in the US and is both black and Asian. Though, let's be honest, it's also a lot about physical attractiveness.

"I send my congratulations to you on your success in winning the United States Open Tennis Championships. It is a remarkable achievement at such a young age, and is testament to your hard work and dedication. I have no doubt your outstanding performance, and that of your opponent Leylah Fernandez, will inspire the next generation of tennis players. I send my warmest good wishes to you and your many supporters."

Her mandarin is not perfect to native speaker standard, but definitely much better than terrible. I would rate it 8/10, with 10 being native speaker.
Let's put it this way, it's a heck of a lot better than mine. Hehehe. :)
Do you know anyone who can speak the number of languages she does,
with no accent nor poor grammar for each one?

Not sure in West but in the city where I grew up in South India, I have known people who can speak 4-6 languages even though some of the languages don't have anything to do with their f.amily history.

As a Tamilian who grew up in Mumbai, I can speak four languages. It's not a biggie either, a lot of people of South Indian origin living in Mumbai can.

Dude, if she was tall that would interfere with her great movement!
Did you know that the wondrous Steffi Graf is the same height as Emma?
A good omen I'd say.
And same height as Serena as well. 5 9" - 5 10" is the goldilocks height in women's tennis, just like 6 1"- 6 2" in men's tennis. The 6 foot plus women usually get a bit giraffe like. Too long legged and can't pivot and change direction quickly. Sabalenka often has this problem and Fernandez was able to exploit it in the semi.

I grew up in Bangalore which has ton of Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam people living there...my friend knew English, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam (was not perfect in Malayalam). His parents both were Telugu people. So, he just picked up Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam from talking to friends and people there.

Any toddler will quickly pick up multiple languages if exposed to them. Even though she grew up in England with nobody speaking it, Mandarin is her mother's native language. She picked it up from just one person. Dad does not speak Mandarin. Her level of fluency is not particularly relevant. Her minimum fluency in Mandarin is good enough for kids in China to identify with her.

Exactly..........Emma will be a snoozefest.
Nobody has the courage to be Hingis.
And Hingis is 17-17 vs. Williams.
11-10 vs. Venus.
6-7 vs. Serena.

I'm not talking about the number of languages. That is common to speak many languages.
I'm talking about speaking each of those languages exactly like a native speaker.
That is different, and much much more uncommon.

I can relate to what dtl_lover says as I have been to Bangalore many times. Bangalore is like a melting pot of South Indian cultures so a lot of people pick up a variety of languages. I mean, I have seen chauffeurs or cab drivers be able to speak Tamil as well as I, as a native Tamilian, can. This sort of thing happens in certain parts of India because of the variety of languages spoken in the same country. So certain cities attract people from all over. And then, they end up speaking both English and Hindi as the international and national link languages, whatever is their native language as well as the language commonly spoken in that city/state (Marathi in Mumbai and Kannada in Bangalore). And even scripts may change between languages. The South Indian languages are not written in Devanagari at all (the script used for Hindi, Marathi and Sanskrit).

I'd agree with the sentiment if she was also blonde. Non western nations obsess over blondes. As a blonde myself, I don't really get it. But it seems to be the way.

You realize this thread is about marketability, don't you? Like I said, if Radu were tall that would be all she wrote! She would be considered almost universally beautiful vs just cute and attractive.

And a player can be tall and move well. Venus, one of the best movers in women's tennis history, is tall and certainly was tall in her prime!

i think this is a reason players end up crashing and burning these days.. they win one tournament and they're already touted or projected as the "greatest money maker of all time" or "future GOAT" lol

Will be interesting to see if she ever wins another slam, or if she's just another Ivanovic, Ostapenko etc.
Or maybe Bouchard is the better comparison, even though she didn't win a slam, they made a big deal of her marketability.
Turned out she was just another boring influencer.

I hear ya.
But how many of those languages are completely different?
Like say, Chinese, English, Romanian, etc.?
