Not sure, you have any vid or a way i can see you? My vid from here is real old and not really worth tracking down and reposting. Ill film again and maybe compare the old and new strokes and make it a video or something.

Ive played with a ton of tt members. At least 30 at last count, so maybe we have and just did not know.

I took them down. I taught there (doug and frank), look like courier. I was down there everyday, we probably met

Hmm. Yeah. Frank used to set me up with matches. Did you happen to use wilson 95s ? I met a guy who looked like courier and hit a real clean flatter ball that told me he used the same frames forever.

There was another tall blonde dude with a big serve and id play matches with my friend next to him. He was like a regular there and he played mikeler and the shorter guy (tt poster) who was the best senior levels aher. Used a volkl.

This all sounds insanely random to anyone who never played at otc. Lol.

Pretty darn good. If I can have matches like that [both my team and the opposition], it's a great day for tennis.

I'm constantly communicating with my partner like these guys are, trying out ideas, proposing solutions, taking feedback. This is one reason why doubles is so stimulating.

I finally watched Ian versus Kevin. If anyone here can defend as well as Ian did in that vid, I'd love to see it.

Yeah, I get it, his strokes look a little awkward, but that dude defends so well, its crazy. He would have a lot of these internet warriors gassed and defeated in 45 minutes.

It's seriously quite difficult to defend and keep the ball that deep. But yeah, it doesn't look pretty, so what. Kevin looked pretty and dropped his first set 6-1. If a guy is defending that wellm it can be real tough to overcome unless you stay calm and focused and realize you are going to have to hit a lot of extra balls back.

The guy receiving serve in the ad court close to the camera (Scott?) needs some doubles lessons. His returns are too high and the left-handed guy picks them off easily. He should slice his returns low, wide, and short. These guys are 4.0-4.5.

Easy to suggest; a lot harder to execute.

You're also not giving any consideration to the serve and how much spin it had on it [which the receivers mentioned in their commentary].

So have I, and I have learned the hard way how to return serve in doubles. Keep the return low and short and wide (with slice), or lob, or hit down the line if you find him moving over too much. In one match, I was playing the ad court and the server kept hitting super-high bouncing spinners to me. I missed several times. I kept moving in closer and closer, and started getting them back. So, he kept trying harder and harder, trying to hit even more spin, and started faulting, and got frustrated and angry. We won simply because he lost his cool and could not stand the fact that I figured out how to counter his tactic, especially since I am short and play with wood racquets. It drives some opponents batty when I play better than they expect.

Seems like the last part is out. Nate seemed pretty nervous and tight throughout the whole doubles match. Double-faulted at least once each service game. Nate's also been out of the game the longest. Both Scott and Nate played D1 while Ian played D2 and Kevin also played D1.

Speaking of ros ... Ian hit 100% 1hbh slice (and many FH slice) ros and won the set. The level of doubles where slice ros can't be successful is higher than this level (if at all). If you are playing rec doubles ... a good 1hbh slice ros can be very high level. The best #1 4.5 doubles player on our USTA 4.5 teams played ad court and hit 1hbh slice ros exclusively ... and often followed it into the net.

Fair point ... but Ian's parents gave Ferris State $1 mil to let him walk on. There was a video of Ian saying he didn't care about college ... but was interested in the partying and wanted to be a tennis influencer.

I already answered your question in my previous post: commentary and ex-Div I status. Results represent his ability to execute. His commentary and college experience represent his knowledge.

I'm not saying his ability to execute is irrelevant. I am saying he's likely aware of what he should be doing.

Listen to the commentary: they are telling you what mistakes are being made, both by their opponents and themselves. They are also discussing about how to adapt to the other team's game. Meanwhile, the opponents are doing the same thing. That's what makes doubles so interesting, the constant Cat & Mouse adjustment and counter-adjustment.
