Federer Is Far From Done

the great swiss assassin is far from done. people keep writing off roger.

especially some of his fans. they just cant wait to write his obituary.

the man is not anywhere near done. just look at ferru. ferru is nearly 32 and is ranked #3 in the world.

and ferru has no weapons.

the word on the street is that roger is planning a strong comeback in 2014.

my own perception is that his form is already on the way back.

you have the floor. have at it and have fun.

Omega_7000

Legend
definitely.

but roger is too proud, too arrogant, he thinks he can win without training hard. Big mistake, his pride killed him.

You must be kidding right? Do you even know how hard he works in the Dubai heat and during his training blocks throughout the year? Just because he doesn't advertise it, it does not mean he is not working. Nobody is born with the ability to play tennis...You have to work towards it.

The guy has a lot of mileage on his body 1200+ matches...It's not as easy to maintain that physical level as you think it is. Do you play tennis? I'll bet most posters here can't even play through a five set match.

age is just a number these days. a 40 year old just won the doubles title at the u.s. open.

ferru is ranked #3 in the world.

tommy haas will be in the top 10 at age 36.

"doubles".

...nuff said.

also, fed is no "ferru" (wth is he called that). his stamina pales in comparison.

Oh, I don't know about that. Players are going on longer, but:

1) Doubles players have been able to last longer than singles players for quite some time. (I have to say that I find this fact counter-intuitive, because it would seem to me that you need fast reflexes for doubles more than for singles, and that reflexes slow down before most other physical attributes diminish. For a similar reason, I find it odd that goalkeepers in football/soccer can go on longer than outfield players. Nonetheless, this is a fact).

2) Ferrer is ranked #4 and his form hasn't been great since June.

3) What reason is there to think that Haas will be in the top ten at 36? That's six months away, and he'll likely lose quite a few points in Miami the week before he turns 36.

It is still the case that only one of the last 160 Slams in men's singles has been won by someone aged 32 or more.

And it's also the case that only one of the last 160 Slams in women's singles has been won by someone aged 32 or more. (In fact, I think it's more like one of the last 200 Slams in women's singles, but I can't remember for sure). (The 32+ champ in women's singles was 33, not 32, but that's by the by).

Snip!

You must be trolling, right?

Ferrer is ranked #4 in the world, and the man is an absolute tennis machine. To suggest that he has no weapons is pure nonsense. He does not possess some of the legendary attributes of his contemporaries, but the primary reason he does not have a slam right now is because of his serve.

At 5' 9" you physically cannot serve with as much pace as a 6' 1" + guy can. Tennis is designed with the server having an advantage, and Ferrer has had to build his career and his results without this being true--or at least as true as his contemporaries. Sure, he has no grand slams, but he is an extraordinary tennis talent.

who said anything about slams? forget the slams. they are not easy to win.

ferru took home 7 titles last year.

you can still play, compete, and win if you want to.

At Federer's level, it's all about the Slams. If he can't win another Slam - or at least reach a Slam final - he's done. That's not true of Ferrer.

Yes i play/played tennis, it is just known that Roger doesn't train as intense as many other guys, i read many times around the internet that he doesn't push himself too much at training, prefers saving energy for the tournaments.
But well, you are right, i am not living with him so we can't be sure!

negative. you want to try again?

rod laver was a midget in his own era also. he did not have any trouble winning slams.

ferru has amazing tennis skills but no real weapons.

now you can say that he gets overpowered by the bigger dudes.

he makes up for his relatively weak serve by having a way above average return of serve.

and that, in turn, leaves him under less pressure with his own serve.

Federer is done as long as any of Murray/Nole and Nadal stand in his way (kind of like Federer has been doing with Nadal for most of his success his entire career. Avoid avoid avoid).

His only hope is to AVOID all three which is highly doubtful

everybody is back full strength next year.

they will all be healthy.

del potro is improving again and Tsonga will look to do some damage next year.

so if roger is looking for challenges, he will find plenty of them in 2014.

You misread and/or are just being selective with your information gathering or simply seeking out like-minded ignorants.

Federer does his training blocks in private and are known to be extremely brutal - something documented by pros who've trained with him. At the tournaments his focus goes on getting used to the courts, conditions etc which is why his training may appear more casual. To see him warming up and assuming that's how he trains is the stuff of morons.

It's beyond belief that anyone thinks Fed isn't unbelievably fit. His calves in person are like Sequoias, similar to Murray's legs, which are also utterly amazing. In 2016, he invited American player Ernesto Escobedo (currently ranked 133) and he said he was "blown away" at Roger training brutally for three hour blocks in 115 degree weather. Felix said the same thing before he left Dubai in late 2017 with an injury.

Although his game is more about attacking, when forced to, he still defends better than the NextGen players apart from Chung and perhaps Coric. His flair and touch sometimes mask the fact that Federer is in fact one of the fittest and fastest athletes to pick up a tennis racket.

LOL, which street is this ?

Anti Rafa brigade have been inventing false stories and predictions about Rafa. Xisca has already said that she will wait until Rafa retires in 2039. This shows that team Nadal are thinking long term and won't retire for a few generations more.

Vamos!
:D :D
smoledman is hardly "anti-rafa brigade". He's very much your camp, paid to infiltrate ours ;)

"inventing false stories" -- hey that is octomom's language :D

The irony of the OP being that the OP'er probably meant this as a jinx thread because he never was a Federer fan.
