That would be huge. What are his chances?

US is the fastest court and he loves it there, probably the surface matches his game the best.

I say unless Nadal can stop him again at AO, he can do it.

I think Murray has the better of him on hard and he'll have to play better than he did today to oust Murray on that surface.

People need to jump off Murray high horse, just like they did Djokovic. Murray was favorite to win Australia Open, favorite to get Wimbledon final this year, and he did neither. At the moment, Roddick plays better than Murray and Djokovic. Murray hadn't shown he could raise his game at crucial moment at all.

I think Murray and Del Potro will be big contenders for the next 2 majors along with Roger. I could see Nadal being one in Australia next year too, not at the U.S Open this year though.

I can see Del Potro being the dark horse for AO (dark horse as in someone other than Nadal or Federer), but the USO will be all Roddick's if he plays the tournament like he did Wimbledon. And this time everyone will be rooting for him now that he's on his home turf and Federer has already broken the record.

Wimbledon 2009 = Rocky I

USO 2009 = Rocky II

Right now Andy>Murray... no doubt.. add to that the US crowd, he has big chances right there and I bet you he is already at work for it

Each and every year Murray betters his progress in every grandslam he competes in.

This year, Quarters of the French, better than his 3rd round appearance last, Semi finals of Wimbledon better than his quarter final appearance last and soon to be US Open victory this year bettering his final appearance last.

This isn't a high horse or a band wagon, Murray has proven time and time again he is a force to be reckoned with on hardcourt surfaces and yes he proved this in 5 set matches @ last years US Open.

Andy's serve won't be so devastating on hard courts because on grass the ball has a awkward bounce. It curves in or out.
In hardcourt it remains straight.

Murray is only getting better while Djokovic is floundering right now. That is a big difference.

it would need another huge effort and also some luck.
I would not say not to anything concerning federer, but I'd set a huge questionmark.

nadal is not just disappeared and there are many other good players (djokovic, murray, roddick, del potro, gonzales) on hard court who could hurt federer.

I don't think hardcourt is his best surface(wimbledon grass is), but yes he is the favourite.

Gonzo is not in anyway, shape, or form a threat to Federer, especialy in a slam. He is a dangerous player to some and a contender to a degree, but not if he plays Federer. Del Potro would have to prove he can even semi hang with Federer on hard courts, so far he scared him once on clay but was spanked every other time.

There is no such thing as a non calender Grand Slam despite the medias best attempt to hype it.
You either win a Grand Slam or you do not. Few women, and even fewer men have reached that level of excellence in a particular year. Therefore their accomplishment should not be diminished by those who cant do it yet claim they have achieved a "Serena Slam", or some other such nonsense.

well atleast the non calender slam is better than just the career slam, although I agree it isnt up with a calender slam.

Can he? Yes. Will he? Ehhhhhh, I dunno. He very well may, but it will be an incredibly tough task, especially the US Open, where Roddick, Murray, Nadal, Djokovic and Del Potro will all be gunning for him.

Who knows though? Federer could be flying high and playing as free as ever knowing that everything else he does from now on is a bonus.

At least at USO I can relax and dont worry about the outcome....

oh man... see how fast things change in tennis? only about couple of months ago Federer needed all types of help.. and suddenly after Madrid things changed..
