Federer not on practice schedule today

Yeah, could be looking at a W/O. If not, we're still looking at a pretty bad beatdown. Not that I care that much. The fact that he's made it this far is amazing.
2 crazy comebacks and a nice point infusion as well. I’d prefer to look at the positives of this tournament. Weak draw sure but a good level of perseverance. I’ll remember last night for a long time. Glad I didn’t turn it off

Let’s see: I’m 38.5 and have played 14 of a possible 15 sets in my last three matches with now 2 full days off to prepare for my next match. I’m thinking a day of work with my physio followed by a practice day on Wednesday might be a better scheme.
But it’s already Wednesday.

Federer is 38 years old, and has suffered A LOT to reach this SF. He is completely aware that this could potentially be his last Grand Slam SF on hard courts ever. Federer has failed to reach the USO SF since 2015 and at the AO 2019 he lost in the 4R and almost lost in the 3R and QF of the AO 2020. Unless his physical pain is very serious, he ain't gonna withdraw. He would prefer to lose than to be wondering the rest of his life "what if I had played this SF".

Federer is running out of time and should embrace his last opportunities. There is nothing wrong with losing to Djokovic, losses happen to everybody. But, as a wise man said, "I can accept failure but I can't accept not trying it".

Idk if it will be a beat down, but I’m definitely satisfied that he has come this far. Showed some real perseverance to make it this far.

Probably looking at a standard straight setter tbh. My guess is something around 3, 4 and 4 if he plays. Might even be a breadstick in there. If it's not then that's awesome, but I really think something around that scoreline is pretty realistic. Can't see Federer grabbing a set.

I went to bed after he won the first and was down a break in the 2nd (had to work in the morning and all that), and I wasn't sure then that he would beat Tennys "journeyman" Sandgren. That made me sad. Then when I woke up I wasn't surprised that he almost lost, and that made me feel worse. I have accepted that he's declined beyond repair, but at the same time he's nowhere near the player he used to be even going back to say 2015 so it's a bit of a chore to watch him. It's like I'm only watching him now because he's Federer and I've watched him for so long, but not necessarily because he produces anything special (at least not regularly), if that makes sense. I still think he's great, but it doesn't have the same magic for me as it once did because the shots that used to be great are just average now. Maybe that's just me getting older though. Not getting the same enjoyment out of it all as when I was a teenager for example.

I should add that I would've watched the whole match if it wasn't for the AO time difference. I don't turn matches off because of disgust in Federer's play or anything like that.

Fed is going to play this SF for sure, in my view. As others have said, no one knows how many more SFs he has in him. It could be zero. He's going to do everything he can so that his body isn't a hindrance. And the crowd will cheer him and love him. And Djokovic will be the villain once again. There is really no downside. If he loses, everyone already knows he is injured, and he is playing the #1 player who is 6 years younger, so what does he have to lose? Seems like a no brainer to me! :)

I agree that he'll power through and play. But I really doubt it's because he looks at it through the lens of 'potential last hard court SF.' I'd be shocked if the US Open has even 1% to do with his decision to play or not.

Grand escape indeed. But I know Djokovic won't get out of a 4-8 hole and save 7 match points in space of four days in 2026.

No one knows that, really. Personally I wouldn't put it past Djokovic to do anything.

That said, Federer may have the most horrible choke (or whatever you want to call it) ever for losing from 40-15 up in a Wimbledon final, but what he did last night was exceptional to me and it said a lot about his mindset. I know Sandgren got nervous and made errors of his own, and I know it was only an AO QF, and it was only Tennys Sandgren, but his efforts last night really show how the fanboys on this forum (not including you in that group obviously) know absolutely nothing.

He could've "tanked" it to "protect" his H2H with Djoker, but he didn't. So it's not like he puts himself in that MP down position on purpose. He doesn't lose to anyone on purpose just to protect his H2H's. None of the Big 3 do. It's just not in that champion part of their DNA, and fanboys here that are overly obsessed with GOATS and some tennis player being scared of another tennis player just don't get that and never will. That's what I laugh about the most on a daily basis here. Just how wrong some of these people actually are. You really have to try hard to be as wrong as some of these hot takes are.

Federer will do everything that he can to be ready. I expect him to give it a try because that's just the way he's molded. Expectations are low to say the least. Fortune has favored him as far as finding a way to advance. Besides that, everything else has been against him with fluffed tennis balls/slow conditions. It was always a long shot anyway. Happy with the run overall, but still sad to see a legend fading away. I'd like to see Stan, Thiem, or even Zverev win this thing since it looks like Fed is on one leg. Maybe he has another miracle in him. It's hard to imagine now though.

I'm seeing tweets from tennis people that he might withdraw. Desperately hope that is not the case, would love another classic between these two.

I hope he does WD. Simply since I think he runs a serious risk of injury/worsening an already existing injury if he does play. And for what benefit. At his age a big injury or lingering injury could literally be the end for him. The prudent move in this case is a WD.

He played Monday, rests Tuesday, practices Wednesday and plays Thursday.

EDIT: That was a day session Tuesday In Oz. This time zone scheme leaves me sleepless in EST. Maybe just a light day practice on Thursday before a night match is enough.
I actually skipped work (or worked from home) yesterday due to lack of sleep from watching the Fed-Sandgren match! At least he won. Had he lost in 5 sets that would have been the biggest sucker punch ever!
