Everything seems to be carefully measured when it comes to Federer's strategy on how to face Nadal this year ..

We saw how he developed his BH in the most effective way to keep that huge Rafa's FH spin in check, time after time after time ..

And now, he adds in an extra shot that he hasn't been consistently going for, in recent seasons: the drop shot with the charge to the net .. (Side note: His short angled slice also seems to be working beautifully)

Considering how Nadal MASSIVELY struggled against Dustin Brown in his last Wimbledon's participation, a player who toyed with Nadal using this particular shot, is Fed thinking about re-arming himself with the long-forgotten/missing shot, in preparation for a potential encounter with Nadal in the final? or do you think he doesn't even have that in his mind atm and we will probably not see that shot quite often from him in Wimbledon?

Federer probably changed the strategy to improve his backhand in general against the field, and likewise also with the drop shot. Federer would have had no reason to think coming into 2017 that the story of the year would be his and Nadal's resurgence.

He does a lot of dropshots for opponents who aren't good at the net or moving forward. Alex Zverev, a comfortable baseliner, is one example, his volleys are club players' like. Against a good net player Federer will use it sparingly.

Federer is probably more likely to face Brown in the final than Nadal.

you are looking too much into it, of course it would work against nadal but he is doing it more as an overall strategy to break the opponents rythm in the baseline, dont forget that tp face nadal in the final he has to defeat other 6 guys first so i dont think he would not use drop shots just to keep it to a particular match that might no even happen

Grass field is pretty open, unlikely there will be a new Fedal final. They can both lose on a bad day on their way to the final.
