First move on the serve: rock back, or bend knees?

I've heard a lot about platform vs pinpoint serve footwork, but how about the first lower body move when the toss is initiated? It seems like some pros stay more upright and rock their weight back onto their back foot, with their front forefoot often rising so that only the heel is on the ground, and others just flex their knees and load up in-place as they toss. Is there a preferred method? Does this decision influence anything else about the serve?

Really many seniors rock back and then twist their front foot into the court making foot fault in every serve.
