Flex 940 Upgraded Clamps

Today I called Maxline before ordering this machine, so I ask them what kind of clamps I'd be getting with the machine; PN1002 or PN1012? They told me that PN1002 are the clamps that I'll be getting.

I heard that many of you guys received this machine with the PN1012 clamps, did you ask before or you just were lucky? or they just have no clue about which clamps the machine has?

Should I just order it and hope for the best?

I got this email on July 5.

The Flex 940 has been upgraded to have 2 PN-1012 swivel clamps.
It also have 1 DP-507 diagonal cutter, 1 NP-500 needle nose pliers,
1 BS-809 tennis awl, and 1 PN-3092 string mover.

Coco, if you receive the PN1002 clamps you should return the machine or demand the PN1012 clamps. There were horror stories on here for years about the PN1002 clamps slipping and having to use a business card between the teeth to remedy the problem. Better yet, you might want to hold off on ordering the machine until you are sure which clamps you're going to get. Clamps are one of, if not the most important parts of the machine.

I received my Flex 940 last month and it came with the upgraded clamps. Their website photo of the machine is outdated. You are hereby forewarned of potential communication issues with Eagnas/Maxline.......

By phone they're still PN 1002
By email they're PN 1012

I already ordered my machine so next week I'll find out :|

http://www dot eagnas dot com/tools.html

Only difference between the two is Independent adjustment of left and right sides of clamp on the PN-1002. Plus the PN-1002 cost $10 more each.

Did a search on this board for PN-1002 and could not find any complaints on the Pn-1002, only reference is the PN-1012 is a new model. I bought some flying clamps from Eagnas and they worked better than the original Alpha clamps.

Who knows which is best, ask someone who has used them, I think either way you got a highly rated machine.

How can the PN-1012 be updated clamps if they cost $10 less each? Kind of strange, usually the higher price clamps are considered better.

PN 1012 are $79.95 and PN 1002 are $59.95.
Several people on this forum used PN 1012 and acknowledged that they are excellent.
I do have question though, does PN 1012 fits another manufacturer like Alpha or Gamma? Any body knows?

PN 1012 are more expensive thant PN 1002. I think they're on special price right now.

The PN-1012 are $39.95 each
The PH-1002 are $49.95 each

The posts I read does not say the 1012 are better than the 1002, but that the 1012 is an excellent clamp. Maybe the 1002 is top of the line?

The prices are posted at Eagnas under stringing tools.

Ok, Now I undertand PN1002 are better than PN1012. :-|
Anyways on Monday I'll be receiving the machine (that's really a quick shipping) and it should bring the PN1012 according to the last email they sent me.

You'd need to search on the old TW message board and archives. Eagnas came out with several upgrades....it may have been the version before the PN-1002 that had some many reported problems.

The PN 1002 and the PN 1012 Eagnas clamps will fit a Alpha Apex machine base, as well as a Prince 2000 and 3000 base. However, the Alpha clamps will not fit the Eagnas Flex 940. The Eagnas clamp posts are a bit to large for the Alpha base.

So the obvious question is, has anyone put the PN1012 clamps on their Apex and compared them to the Apex clamps?

Received the 940 with the PN1012 clamps in July. On the advice of certain members here, emailed Maxline for detailed info on exactly what would be shipped and was told by Michelle via email, then Victor and some other guy via phone (just checking to see if their staff, all three of 'em, were on the same page) that the PN1012 clamps are standard issue. Since then you've been quoted the original clamps which is a disconcerting but not surprising inconsistency. See my "Flex 940" post a couple of weeks ago for more detailed review if you like. I'm happy with the machine so far.

The PN 1012 clamps will NOT fit an Alpha Apex. I have an Apex and I bought 2 PN 1012 clamps. I took them to a machinist and had him make new posts for them. The cut the bottom off the clamp and machined the post to screw into the head. I guess if you could put up with a lot of slop, the standard PN 1012 posts are smaller than the post on the clamps that come with an Apex.

Hey Gaines, have you ever been successful searching the old boards? AFAIK they are totally gone, the archives are of this board, unless i'm completely mistaken.

How would you compare your modified PN-1012 clamps to the clamps that came with your Alpha Apex?

You can also go to a machine shop and have a sleeve pressed onto the existing post to get a better fit for the Alpha swivel base. Just make sure you bring both bases and clamps with you when you have it done to make sure they get the fit right. The guy I used had it done the next day and charged me $20 total. The clamps work great.

Foss,
Is it a nice tight fit? No play between the clamp shaft and the Hossel (less than the clamps it came with)?
Thanks
Mike
